Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Where to buy Singlespeed/Fixed/Track used bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Any suggestions on where I can find and buy
a used bike online?
Just in case this is one of the many places
I could buy a used bike, I'm looking for a
52cm bike (or something with a 54.5cm top tube)
and a 48cm bike.
Thanks -- sandra
There's always ebay. I don't buy stuff online though, particularly from individuals, I've heard one too many horror stories.

Ebay, for sure..... That's the first place I look. I've bought and sold tons of bike stuff there.

I've done a bunch of shopping on eBay as well. Using eBay/PayPal there is really no reason to worry; they have good buyer/seller protection.
Just type in "track bike" on eBay and some dececnt stuff usually comes up.

Another search method on ebay:
Go to the cycling section
Type in "52cm"
Click "Search Items and descriptions"
This will give you a listing of most 52cm bikes/frames on ebay.
You should:
Pay with paypal, via a credit card if possible. This will give you protection from both paypal and your credit card company.
Ask the seller a question or two. This can give you a hint if the seller is easy to deal with or not.
Too bad, I just unloaded a pair of beautiful early 80's Trek 52cm frames on ebay.
Good luck.

Under general search, I type in 'fixed gear' and that'll give me fixed gear conversions, sometimes track bikes, frames, wheelsets, hubs, cogs......whatever and anything related to fixed gear.

i have a track frame with a 48cm seat tube with a 58cm top tube. it's a reynolds 531 romic with a dura ace headset and a suntour track bottom bracket.
i'm not using it, and i doubt i ever will. PM me if you're interested, it's a great frame, but too long for me.

I find a ton of bikes at thrift shops. Literally tons that are more than suitable for a cheap start. From there, EBAY is the next choice.

There's a guy on Ebay applecart2 who sells a lot of fixed gear bikes.
He's a pain to talk to, in fact, he won't talk to you unless you're an auction winnner. I know where he shops, and he makes a good chunck of change. But, he's got what you want for a decent price most times.

Like the man said - most! I try "52 cm" and find a few more. That space makes a difference!

Get em both at once:
type (52cm,52 cm)
with the parenthesis into the ebay search engine. Should bring 'em both up. This also assumes that everyone selling bikes on ebay has bothered to measure them properly, which would be a false assumption.
I agree with the thrift shop statement, but in my experience, thrift stores are a pot-shot. They're unlikely to have a decent frame in your size, so buy the decent frames not in your size, sell 'em on ebay, and buy a frame your own size. That said, two of my bikes are thrifties, and not the two lowest-end, either.
I'd be carefull with ebay fixies. No telling how they've set up the back wheel. I'd do the work myself.

let your LBS know you're looking for a 52cm frame with long, fairly horizontal dropouts (oldschool campy-style). old road frames are often a dime a dozen. you never know.
otherwise, go for ebay. just ask a lot of questions and make sure the seller is responsive and knowledgeable. (and run the auction by some bike-smart friends to get their ok, if you're unsure.)
i bought my track bike on ebay a good year ago, but only after drilling the seller on details, history of the frame, and how he'd be shipping it.

I think that violates the anti ballistic battery treaty.
Weapons of mass concusion.
Did they name those batteries after the old man who overdosed on Viagra?
