I've got this Skykomish 21 Speed i've had for 15 years that I'd love to do something with.

The rear gearset is pretty shot...bent and cracked teeth... the derailuer is new, the shifters are in great shape, the brakes are decent shimano's abour 10 years old and the frame is fine, and the front gear set is good as well as its derailuer. Other than that it needs some help. I mean I could fill up the tires (maybe) and ride it, but it needs help. The bearings in the head set are shot and need replacing and might as well the fork as well i guess.

I dunno what to do with it though... part of me says turn it into a commuter for those days I don't feel like taking the cruiser, part of me says hack it up and do something crazy like Put a trike kit on the back or take a shot at chopping the frame (i dunno why or where...just sounds cool)

Since you are posting on the Alt Bike thread it may sound like you really want to do something drastic and that is OK. My first thought is think through your needs and if you really like the bike, fix it up and use it as you said as an alternate. You can always find a peice of junk at a garage sale or an auction house ( that is where I get my stuff to chop) and start making your dream trike... first thoughts,,opinion may vary in a few moments.

No reason at all. In fact after a quick run through my local Craigslist I'm more inclined to hack this one and drop 100 on a bike where i like the geometry better to keep as a commuter


Might be hard to make this a trike considering it has vertical dropouts, On the other hand I'm sure the body shop i work next to would hack weld new dropouts for me no prob

Might be neat to build a side-car for it.

heh, only if they pedal too ;)

or even hack it then use it as your main ride
