I thought I would make a post here on this bike forum, about a completely new type of lighting system for a bike, based upon the new Luxeon Star LED technology. This bike light is a hand made custom creation, not something in production. The only thing of it's kind in the world (for now).

This new bike light system based upon the new, remarkably bright 3 watt Luxeon Star LED. I modifed two Tri-Star LED flashlights, of which each uses three 3 watt LEDs. Each LED produces a super bright 72 lumens. Even one of these LEDs is more than adequate for a bike light, but this system has a total of six 3 watt LEDs. I'll be putting one of these two lights up on eBay shortly. You can find it on eBay by doing a search on 'Luxeon' and 'Bike'.

One of the Tri-Star bike lights will produce 216 lumens, and will run for about 8 hours on a set of 4 nimh D cells. Battery life can vary based upon type of batteries used.

Here is a link to a web page about this remarkable light:

Hello,

Have you any further news on your new cycle lights? Are they in production yet?

I made a few prototypes, (of which two are mounted on my mountain bike.) I have not had the time to get back to the bike light project yet.

On my bike, I mounted two Tri-Star bike lights, each putting out over 200 lumens. Each light weighs about 16 ounces with the bracket. I doubt anybody would need two of these things. I just did it to see how bright it would be.

I'm presently building a custom, one of a kind bike light, which will be housing 8 3 watt Luxeon Star LEDs, for a total light output capability of at least 576 lumens. That will be 24 watts, which is probably more equivalent to 48 watts from a halogen bulb. I'll be putting it up on eBay when I'm finished with it. It will probably not be light to be built in production. I will make it with the cabability of using 4 or 8 LEDs.

A lot of people have been buying my FT-3C flashlight, and mounting them on their handlebars. They say it's a great bike like. It has a 6 degree beam, and really throws quite far, yet it still has some side spill for close up viewing.
