Northern California - looking for riding clubs in the bay area

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Are you the guy I met at the base of Sierra Road in San Jose/Milpitas at about 6pm on Sunday? I was wearing yellow. But if you're from Walnut Creek I'm thinking maybe not...

Hey, did I ride part-way up the Northgate on Mt. Diablo today with you (I was the one doing D-peats, with a Tour of Napa Valley jersey on)?

Glad you found the Bike Forums site.
Keep at it on Diablo - it might be easier for you to swap out to a compact double instead of trying to make a triple work, since you already have a bike with a standard double. Swapping to a triple would involve changing lots of stuff, including potentially your rear derailleur. Based on how you were doing today, it won't take you long before you are climbing Diablo with whatever gearing you choose.
Stick with it! - and check on here for rides. Lots of them get setup on here, and most will have both an easy-going group and a faster group. You'll do fine on most of them.
