I went for the first (non-shakedown) ride with my new Melton - yes! A loop from Noe Valley in SF across the GG Bridge, Sausalito, Corte Madera, Larkspur Ferry... back up Market, Howard, Valencia, and home - 29 riding miles.

The day was warm, but wonderful. And I just wanted to share some (sorry - not-so-great-quality) cell pics:

1.) Bay view from a Presidio lookout - Alcatraz and Palace of Fine Arts dome within bike frame; Angel Island on left

2.) GG Bridge north tower from shared (uggh) bike/ped. path; bike is in there somewhere

3.) Bay Bridge and SF skyline from Sausalito

4.) 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Mille Miglia (Ralph Lauren's) at a former employer's shop in Marin; you never know what a hedge is hiding - this model is an all-time favorite and among the world's most valuable automobiles; my bike is in there somewhere.

That's a sweet looking Melton. So no more Schwinn?

jobob - thanks! It was indeed - the hill north to Corte Madera seems big in a car.. cresting it on a bike felt darn good. Some of the houses along the way into CM were gorgeous. I more fully appreciate the appeal of Marin property, now.

BR/Henry - the Varsity now has its rack installed and will hopefully encourage me to use it on my utilitarian journeys. I had hoped/thought I might find a Paramount or maybe something else uncommon in the Schwinn line. The Melton (being fairly unusual and American-made) just seemed like the right one to jump on. Better pics of the bike, soon.

By the title, I thought maybe you had run into Lemmy during your ride or something. :P

Are the Golden Gate sidewalks pedestrian/bike mixed during the week? I've only ridden across on the weekends, and it's pretty hairy, even with the segregation. Having to dodge peds would be horrifying.

Only the eastern sidewalk. The western sidewalk is _supposed_ to be bikes only.
At least that's how it used to be.

x136 - During the week, a sign instructs bikes to share the eastern sidewalk w/ the peds. (weekends, we get the western side exclusively.) Even the bridge maintenance crew golf-carts were chugging along this "roadway" on Wed. - from SF to the south tower, it was awful - continuing north, the traffic lightened significantly.

Sorry - don't know about the Lemmy ref.
