Mountain Biking - Who and where

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just interested in where everybody is from and where you guys had your best rides?
I'm from Sweden, and have only been riding in swedan and Miami. Must say Sweden has a lot better biking than Miami, even though their few hand made tracks is fun for a while.

I'm from the beautiful Texas Hill Country near Austin; my best ride so far was Highway 16 south to Medina than off to Vanderpool. Monster hills (not mountains, so the mountain boys can stop laughing...they truly are *hills* and all right, I know it!)
Well, let me get a little corny and say also that my best ride is always the one I'm on.

Im from Highland Utah (about 3 hours from moab). There's hundreds of miles of single track around here, and 3 all year ski resorts that let mtn bikes in during the summer all within 30min of me... and then the weekend road trips to moab in the spring and fall... I guess one of the best rides i have ever had was about 3 weeks ago, a 20mile night ride on some epic single track with some buddys, Awesome stuff, cant wait to do it again soon.

(edited to change miles to hours! wish i was 3 miles from moab)

I'm from Prince George B.C. I live in the north, tons of riding up here. By far the best riding is on the coast though. Steep single track that would make most people wimper. ( made me ruin a great mongoose and knock out a tooth, small price to pay really considering how great the ride was up till then) I've ridden BC, Alberta, Washington, Oregon and California. I tour often and always check out the local trails when I do.

yeh its nice http://www.bikeforums.com/ubb/smile.gif I think the coolest trails are in a small town called Ridgway and Ouray. They have lots of mountains and tons of jeep trails. It has a lot of great scenic trails.

Gecko, Just wondering where in MO you live, and do you race the Midwest Fat Tire Championships? I started racing MTB this season a week after I got my first MTB. It has really helped in my bmx racing too, L8R
I'm in London, UK, but I ride mostly in the country around Hampshire and Oxfordshire. We may be short of mountains, but boy do we have rain!
I live on the outskirts of Eugene, OR. Smack dab in the middle of the "wet" west coast. Plenty of "official" and unofficial trails available for riding. Like the McKenzie River Trail (approx. 30 miles of some of the best riding you will ever find!), and Eugene's Ridgeline Trail (short, but well maintained). Since Eugene was once at the center of the West Coast logging industry, there is an abundance of old logging roads, cat trails, and old fire lines that make for great single and double track rides. So, if you are traveling thru the area, make sure you take time to stop and enjoy the riding...

I live in Cheyenne Wyoming, The coolest place that I have ever been bike riding was Steam Boat CO. Crested Bute is also nice. I am planning to go to Moab this summer, or rather beginning of fall. Can't wait to tear it up. I go to CO alot because there are more mountains to explore. Tracie
I'm from Ottawa in The Great White North, heh!!Around here we have the Gatineau Park to ride in.It's about 350,000 acres of green forest, soon to have a colour explosion, lots of legal and shhh,(illegal trails)but they are hidden deep in the woods,so please don't tell to many people about them.

I'm from Kenmore, a suburb of Seattle at the top of lake Washington. I live 10 minutes from St. Edwards Park, and since traffic really SUCKS here, it is the only realistic place I can ride after work. Love riding in Eastern Washington, where the singletrack isn't so technical (a nice way of saying they aren't filled with mud bogs, tree stumps, and exposed rocks due to heavy runoff) but I can still get in a lot of climbing.

Hailing from Los Angeles...
to put my location more into perspective, i live fifteen minutes(by car)west of Disneyland, ten minutes from Long Beach, and five, maybe six miles from Knott's Berry Farm.
you'd think there wasn't much to do around here in the way of trailriding, but there is. The whittier hills are close, i've ridden some trails in Fullerton, and it's not too far to the beach....
of course, the most common hills i encounter are known as "overpasses"...

i'm from south jersey, near philly. my most interesting long trips have all been on an annual halloween weekend trip. for some reason these events always wind up being the most adventurous and near disasterous. maybe because the annual event originated after a halloween ride that got way out of control - 11 hours in the jersey pine barrens, half of these hours were after dark, with one light for three riders, no food, no water, no maps, fog, cold and the lore of the jersey devil. learned alot from that early ride (1989) and have the annual ride to look forward to every year.

Bozeman, Montana. There's some great local rides, and we try and make it to Fruita, Moab, and other fun places several times a year. Best ride? Probably Cave Gulch in Helena. I have a great time everytime I go there. Unfortunately it burnt in this summer's fire season. I haven't been there yet to scope the damage. I hope it's not totally destroyed.

I ride at hanna park and cedar swamp mainly

I live in NorthWest Arkansas, and I mainly ride the trails that circle the lakes around here.
There are a few trails at Devil's Den state park that are fun to ride every once in a while.
