Alt Bike Culture - Sun EZ-1Sx to 16to20" front? Reinforcement?

Im a 125kg / 275 lbs... pretty close anyway though prolly lighter. I've got a bum knee too.

I want to convert my EZ-1 to an Ebike but do not want the 16" wheel due to the low speeds

I am curious if anyone has put longer front forks on an EZ-1. Specifically it is so that I can use a larger 20" hub motor.

The reason being is I would like to have the option of dropping the batteries and the motor quickly if I want to go peddeling without the motor, and not have the dragging weight of the unsued parts.

Any ideas...


Also interested in if there is any need to add a welded parts to beef of the frame due to my weight and the added weight of the motor / hub. Another reason to put the motor up fron to distribute the weight better.. I already have a STOUT RINGWORM tire on the back.

No reason why you can't change the forks, its just like any other bike. The only thing I see is that you might feel a little strange with the 20" in the front as the attitude of the bike will be pretty different. You'll be sitting on an incline and kinda looking at the clouds.


Have you considered a non-hub motor? You could power either wheel without changing them or the forks

Eh, I'm sure that you could, but not knowing the geometry of recumbents I don't know how it would change it. Of course you asked in alt bikes so the answer is DO IT.
