Bicycle Mechanics - Cassette on spare wheels

Hi guys, I'm a commuter biker who does the very occasional tour, and I just got spare wheelset to put my winter tires on in the winter, and to keep cx tires on in the summer. I was thinking of putting a lower range cassette on there, but will I have to adjust my derailleur every time I change sets out?

If you have the same number of cogs on the cassette you should not need to make an adjustment to the trim on the rear derailer. However if you have made a large change in the low tooth count from the original cassette you will need another chain to make it work smoothly.
A quick removable link like the SRAM chains have will make the swap easy.

Yeah, the derailleur should be fine, but it depends how different the cassettes are (as for how smooth the overall setup is.) Are they both 9speed, and what are the cog ranges on each cassette?

SRAM PG970 11-32, 9 speed is on there, I thought about just lowering the low gear, will a 34 make much difference? Any suggestions?

You should be fine,just check the big-big combo just in case.

Going between an 11-32 and an 11-34? The 34 will be noticeable on long, steep hills. Not a big difference, but if you find yourself on a long, steep hill, you'll be thankful for the 34 :)

Yes,depending on how close the distance is between the right locknut and the small gear,between the wheelsets,you may have to fine tune the derailler.

Depends on the fit of your chain. When you setup the chain for the 11-34 it will work with any other cassette. I have several 10 spd wheels (campy) and swap them out freely.
