View Full Version : Edge 705 Mounting Problem

My new Edge 705 just arrived and I'm thinking I have a bit of problem mounting the cadence and speed sensors. The chainstays on the Specialized Roubaix curve inward toward the spokes. This causes two problems. First the pedal magnet looks like it will be too far from the sensor mounted on the chainstay, and second, the speed sensor looks as if it will be awfully close to the spokes.

Anyone have any advice or experience with this before I take it up to the LBS?

Thanks.

I have a 2008 Roubaix Pro and didn't have any trouble mounting the sensors. I can post a picture if you like.

Please do post a picture. Just looking at it, it seems as if I would have to do something to close the gap between the pedal magnet and the sensor, like put some kind of shim under it. Did you not have to do that? I'll look forward to seeing the photo, thanks K4LK de KB7DBY.

Here you go. Hope this helps.

Yes, that's a big help. I'll try mounting mine in the same spot and hope it works. Thanks again.

The arm for the spoke sensor is adjustable (ala K4LK). It can be adjusted as required. With that, if the crank arm gap is to wide, slide the whole unit forward. As you said, the chain stay curves toward the spokes ... so moving the whole unit forward should increase the spoke gap and decrease the crank arm gap ... right?

It makes no difference (on readings) where the magnets are located along the spoke or the crank arm as long as they are aligned to the sensor. They both measure RPM.

Thanks to both of you. They're installed and working. Just came back from a nice long ride and enjoyed watching heart rate, cadence, grade, etc.

The basic problem was a DUE (dumb user error), and if I had RTFM (read the "fine" manual) more carefully I would have picked up that the sensor could be tilted out of vertical to bring it closer to the pedal magnet. And yes I also discovered (thanks to the photo and a second read of the manual) that I could adjust the spoke sensor angle.
