We're planning a multi-day ride and trying to figure out the best way to get from Silverthorne to Granby. We had planned to ride from Silverthorne to Granby via Kremling, but reading about the lack of shoulder on Hwy 9, I am thinking of going over Loveland and then down to Berthoud etc. Thoughts???

Our original plan is to ride from Golden to Silverthorne (day 1) then Silverthorne to Granby (day 2) then Granby to Estes Park (day 3) then Estes Park back to Golden.

Please chime in with any advice. For what its worth, we've ridden to Silverthorne and the Peak to Peak hwy (but the rest of the route is "un-charted" for us).

thx in advance for any help.

Follow CO 9 north out of Silverthorne, turn right/east on Ute Pass Road (Summit County Road 15?), follow this over Ute Pass and into Grand County. Once in Grand County this road becomes Grand County road 3, and goes from rough pavement to very well graded dirt. It's a very pretty ride north to Parshall, where you turn right/east again onto US 40, which takes you through Hot Sulphur Springs and into Granby.

A few years back I did a loop from Silverthorne over Ute Pass, up to Parshall on GCR3, and back to Silverthorne on US 40/CO 9. Ute Pass and GCR 3 to Parshall was beautiful, I felt like I was seeing Colorado the way it looked 30 or 40 years ago. Kremmling to Silverthorne was truly frightening, I had a couple of very close calls with idiots coming the other way and overtaking other cars, forcing me onto the (non-existent) shoulder.
