Fifty Plus (50+) - My apologies...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Sorry for the double post.

Before taking my leave from BikeForums for a while, I just want to apologize to the moderators, and any other folks that I may have offended. The, now four page, thread concerning moderator issues in the 50+ forum really pushed me beyond my limits. I spoke rather harshly at one point: "Let me just say this. I'll post whatever I want where I want, and if they don't like it they don't have to read it. Or, they can throw me out. And, trust me, I've been thrown out of better places than this." This kind of comment, upon reflection, tells me the reason I come to the 50+ Forum as long since evaporated.

The truth of the matter is, that as a cyclist over 50 years of age, I find myself in the minority on a daily basis. Most folks would rather be out on the road in their 2 ton metal/plastic boxes. And those who do cycle are typically much younger than I. So, the 50+ Forum has been a haven, a place where I can appreciate the thoughts, humor, knowledge, exploits, and lives of others who have lived through many of the Earth's same orbits around the sun as I have. While some call the 50+ forum a koffee klatch with an in group, I've always found the forum to be welcoming to just about everyone. That is, until recently. And, I fear I may have helped facilitate a less than welcoming attitude and perhaps disrespect toward moderators (neither of which I choose to hold on to). So, once again, my apologies.

NO! Don't go. We need all the good posters we can get. Leaving helps no one, least of all yourself.

Neil B.

You were not the only one to become somewhat peeved during that post as I too had some strong statements to make. I have seen much worse in BF before and probably will again.

I think that sometimes a quick vent is good for everyone. I would ask that you take a deep breath and then come back into the forum as your voice has always been one that I would want to listen to here.

The exchange of human ideas does not always have to be bland.........its ok to agree to disagree sometimes. The world would be a pretty disappointing place otherwise.

I don't think you are clear on how this works. Let me explain

You post a request for a leave form
Some time later the form may arrive
You fill it out, lose it and request a new form
repeat step 2 and 3 as necessary
Eventually you send the form in
We are unable to open it due to format compatibility issues
We request a resend
We lose the form and request you send a copy
You resend
By this point we either choose to reject your leave form, or we all realize we've forgotten what it was all about in the first place

Hope this helps

It's a better forum WITH you than WITHOUT you. Think about it, mull it over, and c'mon back, ya hear? We'll miss you!

I'ld hate to see you go. I've enjoyed your posts. I certainly
wasn't offended by your comments in that goofy thread.

Don't care how many moderatore you have upset- Or how many 50+ers come to that-( but we are thick skinned enough not to let that worry us) But I would point to the postings above to say that you cannot leave- even for a while. Your views are valued and so is your input to this forum.

So stop acting like a Grown up- and fill out your leaving form. In 6 months we'll tell you cannot leave.

BSLeVan:

This is kind of like the military except we don't own you. Misery loves company and we can, at times, be a testy and miserable lot. No reflections on the other 50+ folks, but I can and have been somewhat asinine at times. So my posts are started (did this the other day) and then changed simply to "---". Much to my surprise with were others of like mind who also responded very eloquently: "---". It appears we were of like mind on the issue. What was I thinking? I can't even read between the lines.

So, don't leave! I am sure that all is water under the bridge and we have far to many miles ahead of us to let you drop.

There are times a self-imposed ban is in order. I fired an obscenity at a fellow 50+er about six weeks ago, which is totally unlike me, so I put myself into exile for three weeks.

At which time my office productivity sky-rocketed, and my family said it was good to see me again.

Therefore, in my opinion as a repeat offender, I would have to say that you did not cross the line requiring exile. Now, if you're just looking for an excuse to get on with life, that's another thing....
