Hi all, I'm usually in the clyde or commuter forums, but I'm currently trying to help my dad find a bike that he can ride. He's 65, has some health issues that prevent a conventional bike from being practical. He was riding a road bike about 4 years ago, but can't any longer. He has trouble balancing, has very little feeling in his feet (poor circulation/diabetes) and poor eyesight (one eye is always in some state of disrepair from diabetic retinopathy).

So we're thinking a recumbent tadpole trike would be the best solution for him. The only problem this presents is getting in and out of it. He has trouble getting up from low cars and this will probably be more difficult. Anyone have any clever solutions for this? Or a more appropriate bike suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Why not a delta trike? Sun (http://www.sunbicycles.com/sun/index.htm) makes some semi-recumbent deltas (EZ-3 AX, SX, and USX) that are much easier to get up from than the tadpoles I've seen (seat heights of about 18"). If even that is too low, there are more upright trikes available...

That EX-3 looks perfect, and at $850 for the steel version, that's a very reasonable price. I called up a shop close to him and they even have one built up for a test ride. Thanks for the info!

That would have been my recommendation as well. He's got a good son. Have a happy Father's Day.

He's welcome to hang out here if he'd like.
