I am in the market for a new bike. I have decided that I like the versatility and advantages of buying a cyclocross bike. My problem is that I do not know what bike to purchase, as there are so many options. I do have some in mind, and a budget of around $2500. The bike will predominately be used as my mode of transport, so mainly road riding, with riding it on trails on the weekend, and hopefully in the future to race with. The bikes that I am thinking about are: major jake, jake the snake, bianchi- cross concept(I can probally stretch the budget), axis, trek- XO1/2, lemond- poprad, specialized- tricross comp, tricross sport triple, scott- cyclocross team/comp, and quite a few models from ridley. I am also interested to hear anyone's thoughts on the Motobecane Fantom Cross Pro Cyclocross Bike that can be purchased from bikesdirect.com. With whatever bike I purchase, I would prefer not to have to do to many changes to the bike, this said however, I would be prepared to change things such as tyres/rims, and running gear to make it the best possible bike.

Have you ever considered buying used? You can get good deals for used cyclocross bikes at many places... Hell, you could get this fully equipped Kish Ti for 2,200$ (http://classifieds.roadbikereview.com/showproduct.php?product=9479&cat=4)!!!
