Any Clydes riding the Trek Madone 4.5? Thinking about a good road bike and this is at the top end of my budget.

The 5.2 is my "goal bike". I'm 340, though, and I rode a 5.2 Pro when I was probably 350 for probably 5-10 miles. It didn't break, and holy schniekes was it fun! Had Ultegra SL and all that jazz, I just couldn't believe how fast it accelerated.

While I wouldn't buy one now, if I was under 250 I wouldn't have a problem doing it. Felt stiff as a board under me, very surprising all around.

I bought an '06 LeMond Buenos Aires this Spring and have about 500 troublefree miles on it. It was made in the same factory as the Madone in Wisconsin. The LeMond and Madones do share a lot of technology though each has unique geometry. The LeMond geometry fit my taller body nicely. With my 6'2.5" and 215 Lbs frame so far absolutely no problems. I would think that the low 200's is no problem. Mid to upper 200's may be a bit much for some of the road bikes, but they may hold out just fine.

Happy riding,
André

I started riding my Trek 5500 at 347 and I'm down to 279 now. It just gets faster and faster every week. My goal is to get Bontrager Select or RaceLites wheels once I get to 225. I really can't imagine a sweeter ride than the 5500.

Bonti Selects? Heck I crushed them and a Race at 220 lbs. Got a stack of them in the room if you need spare parts.:D Racelites seem to be doing ok for the wife. Went out once but I retensioned them and have been fine since. But she weighs far less than 225!:p

Avoid the Selects, they suck. The Race Lite's however are much stronger and held my, at the time 330 lbs, very good, maintained trueness and strength . I rode them for about 6 or 8 months, but I was never comfortable on them. I sold them to another BF member and he loves them.

I weigh 225 right now and am heading down, slowly... but definitely down.
I ride a Bianchi Axis cross now and have been quite pleased with it. But road riding is starting to lure me.
I have a Trek 1000 but had a lot of flats with it. Want to avoid that with the 4.5.

I starting riding my Specialized Tarmac Pro when I hit 225. Im at 206 now and have prob 1500 miles on my roadie. Not a single issue at all, with the wheels or frame.

But I think 225 is about the max on one of these bikes. Set a goal for yourself and when you reach it, go out and buy your toy
