Northern California - Does anyone here have a Caltrain bike locker?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Do you use it? What's your use pattern? I realized I have never met anyone who actually has one of these things. Caltrain is promoting the use of lockers, and proposing building more. I am guessing they actually get used to store people's files for cheap ($50/year or something like that).

Like most, I need my bike on both sides... so... nope.

I like your blog BTW.

I am another veteran bike/train user. I am also a transportation planner. ;)

I don't have a locker at the moment, but I have in the past and will probably rent one again in the future. I can walk to CalTrain from home, so I used the locker to hold a bike that got me from CalTrain to work. Used it 5 days a week for 3 years.

As I commuted during pretty standard rush hour times, I saw a lot of others using the lockers in the same way, bike from train to work and back in the afternoon. Seemed to be a pretty common way to use the lockers.

I would do it too, if my walk was shorter on the home side.

Also, I would need a 2nd commuter bike. Since I use my commuter bike for trips to the store, girlfriend's house, bank, etc...

I don't have a CalTrain locker, but I do have a BART locker. It's been great. I'd assume CalRrain and BART lockers are pretty much the same. I believe I pay $25 a year with a $30 deposit. I've used it for almost two years. Haven't had one problem.
I wish BART would allow bikes during commute hours.

"I believe I pay $25 a year with a $30 deposit."

This is the problem - for $25 a year I would get one to store my old television I don't want to get rid of.
Of course, an equally big problem is how cheap it is to park a car at the Caltrain lots....
