I'm deciding whether to drive the 35 miles to take a closer look at this bike:

http://humboldt.craigslist.org/bik/715725918.html

The bike is for my wife (age 52, good shape), who's inseam measures 33 inches.

The seller says the frame is 18". From the photo, I calculate that the seat is 29.6 inches from the bottom bracket.

I want a bike for her that is comfortable, and will work on trips up to 20 miles.

Questions: does the size seem about right?

Would you call this a hybrid, mountain bike, urban bike, what?

Is it worth a trip?

Thanks!

No front shock means it's a hybrid IMO. Have you tried emailing the seller to ask for the model number? Looks like it might be printed on the top tube but I can't read it in the lo-res pic. If you can get the model # you can look up specs (including the standover height for that frame size) on Trek's web site.

Back in the day they made rigid (no-suspension) mountain bikes. Which is what this is. Switch the tires to slicks and you'll have a "hybrid". See how meaningless these marketing terms are sometimes?

As you might guess from my "back in the day" comment, this is an old bike. Its likely a bottom of the line model. I would not pay $200 for it. The current Trek version of the bike (7000 WSD) retails for $360.

The size seems small. My inseam is 30" and an 18" frame is way too small for me.
