Northern California - Need commute route help for San Francisco

What is a good commute route to use to get from outer sunset to 20th st and 3rd street in Potrero Hill via bike?

I know I can take the N train to Church and then take the 22 bus to the end of the line if I use Muni, but the route that the 22 takes is not one I would want to ride every day.

I know that I can expect tons of traffic on 16th st though so I would rather avoid it. Also the portion where it shows the route going north on 4th AVE, I know I can go on 3rd and use the bike path in GG Park to Page St but Google Maps doesn't let me do that since it's car routes.

I have never biked anywhere east of GG of the eastern end of GG park not including the Panhandle. I've been throughout Sunset, Richmond, Ingleside, etc, but never crossed town like this so I'm not sure what I'm getting into. I know about the wiggle and that's in the route already.

Have you looked at 511.org (http://bikemapper.mtc.ca.gov/BikeMapper/map.jsp)? If you can stand their SLOW website, it may help you.

looks like the fastest traffic would be at kezar, but this says there's a bike path. ... i used to avoid that by going past ucsf into the hills, then zig-zagging past the mansions until i got to page. ... going east on 14th, crossing market would be the most traffic, though somewhat slow-moving, but watch for cars taking a right on guerrero after the fast downhill past dolores. ... the rest is cake. ... seems there's always construction going on around china basin, so some streets might be closed. illinois and china basin can be some good riding - at least as far as in-city riding goes. that was the only place where i could get uninterrupted riding in. ... good luck!

It's a mixed use pathway on the south side of the street. I found it last week when I went to Stanyan and Haight.

oh, getting back is going to be different cuz 14th is a one-way street. .. you can either get on valencia >> market >> wiggle, ... or, which i liked, going up 17th and into the hills via corbett >> clayton, then downhill into the haight and sunset. .. or, you can take the long route toward bernal heights >> up glen park >> down portola and into the sunset.

Your route looks good.

Riding on 16th and 17th is just a pain in the ass but there really isn't any way around it to get to where you're going. That's why my rides in the city usually only consist of GG Park and heading out Arguello to the Bridge.

I live in this area (Inner Sunset around 9th and Irving) and I'm not sure why you wouldn't just go through the park on the Western side of the city. There will be less hills and traffic. It might look longer from the map, but I think you'll save some time and aggravation.

Page St. is a safe route to take all the way to market if you like... Page st. has light amounts of traffic and a nice bike lane on both sides just watch out for stupid cyclist.... I ride page most of the time to get to work in the morning.
