Clipless and My First Fall!

Well, less than 4 hours since I had my Shimano M424s SPD pedals put on the Stratus, and I pull my first slow motion fall as my wife watches and laughs! :roflmao2:

I was going up hill slowly talking to her, and just tried to put my foot down for no apparent reason. I had clipped out on the left, but not the right! Not even a scratch, but it is tricky to unclip with the bike on top of the clipped-in shoe.

Once I get my cleats dialed in, I think I will like them. Oh, and remember that I _HAVE_ them.

Yeah, the heel-out motion becomes second nature very quickly. Everyone takes a fall to begin with.

I've fallen twice this year with clips and straps.
can't imagine what i'd do with clipless.

clipless is far more predictable than clips and straps once you get used to them which takes a couple rides

I've fallen 5 times this year and I've had my clipless for 2 months or so. Its usually my wifes fault cause I usually let her ride in front of me and she does some unpredictable things as she's slowing down to stop. I try and predict, but am usually wrong and I have to hit my breaks to avoid hitting her and I usually flop down.

IT's quite a weird feeling doing a slow motion fall, cause you know its coming.

I just went clipless too, I love it. The hills seem so much easier going up. I have had only one incident so far, and will probably have others. I think the most difficult times I have though is walking down the steps of my house in cleats! Enjoy!

How do you like your Sidis?

They are quite comfy, but I fear just a little tight. I am still dialing in the fit though. The closures are really quite interesting. The dominators are probably the lightest shoe I've owned since 2nd grade--the carbon ones must blow away in a light breeze.

I had one fall while getting used to them. Can't imagine riding without now.

I remember my first experience with clipless like yesterday. Managed to remember my whole time climbing and descending a fire road...until I got off the trail and came to a stop sign :D Plenty of cars driving by to watch me fall over. Embarrassing for sure but I survived...

Ive never tried any kind of retention system..i dont know if i ever will. Something i dont like about not being able to get away from the bike if i have too.

Thankfully I've never forgotten to unclip but I've had a couple of terrifying experiences where I almost fell and had to rip my foot forcefully out of the pedal in order to stop from falling. But you get used to them very quickly. I even have them on my mountain bike now. With the shoes/pedals I find I don't tire as quickly and the shoes have ample ventilation and that keeps your feet happy.
