Anyone have any experience with the Marzocchi bomber MZ comp fork? I was plannin on gettin the MX Comp for £160, but ive just found this for 80 quid! Is it worth spendin twice as much for the MX?? Im plannin on buying a hardrock rigid and puttin a decent marz fork on it- what do you think?

Il be riding mainly technical trails, and maybe a lil bit of DH

The Mz fork is made by SR suntour, and so is not a genuine Marz fork, the MX comp is a good budget fork, but im not sure if it will stand up too well to the dh...

If I were you i'd save your money and get the mx, thats a real marz fork, and so you get a better fork, and better service

I'm no expert on the MX-Comp but as CR_UK said, it might not be the best for downhill, but it depends on your definition of downhill.

If you mean technical descents where you may get a wee bit of air (a few feet), then the MX-Comp should work fine since Marzocchi claims it is good for "aggressive XC".

If you mean downhill in that you'll be hucking your bike and going off big jumps and drops and blazing down rocky terrain, then I don't think either of the Marzocchis you mentioned are designed for that.

For the stuff you described, save your money for at least a Z1. Those can take some DH.

I think I have an mx comp on my xc bike (the instinct). I have actually beaten it up on some dh type trails before.....not xc type stuff. I wouldent trust it for an every day beating, but I did use it 3-4 times when my bighit was broke down. It is also VERY flexy.

Well, The DH aspect is only an idea, but for the mean time It will all be trails, plus theres no way im going to be doing massive jumps. Il probably stick with choosing between these 2 forks, i want a Marz but dont want to pay anymore than £160 for the time being.

Cornish, Im from Liverpool, not much in terms of trails, but im plannin on headin over to the peak district and wales, as soon as i get my bike!

Stay away from the MZ, it's junk. If you don't want to pony up for the MX Comp get an EXR. This years EXR Comp doesn't suck as bad as last year (this years MZ is basically last years EXR comp), this year it has one side with SSV dampening and a coil or air spring and the other side a long coil spring. Or if you have more to spend get the EXR Pro, which has SSV dampending on both sides + coil or air springs. In fact the only difference betten the MX Comp and the EXR pro is that the EXR Pro is made in Taiwan (hence probably more likelyhood of defects), and it does not have the drilled out crown or the cryofit fitting of the stanchions into the crown.

For price comparison in Canada my LBS sells the MX Comp at $400 vs $280 for the EXR Pro.

Air forks are mostly used for people under 200lbs, mostly for XC use, because the seals often go on heavier riders, they arent very good at taking drops...

Maybe someday we could meet up somewhere, and go for a ride :) Its nice to have somebody British on these forums, we can relate to how C**P some of the trails are over here lol
