Hi,

This may be a silly question for some of you, but it's important to me. I like to try to buy things made in the USA when possible. I think NiteRider and Dinotte lights are made in the US. Can anyone tell me about the others?
Fenix?
Light and motion?
CygoLite?
CatEye?
Blackburn?

Thanks in advance!

I'm with you there, but you're not gonna find a lot of small electronic stuff made in America. Fenix is a Chinese company. The other stuff is most likely made in China. If any of those brands are manufactured here, I'm sure their web sites will tout that fact.

My Planet Bike (http://www.planetbike.com/) Superflash is made in Taiwan, but they seem like a kick-ass company; check out their web site.

A while back I bought a Blackburn rear light and I was appalled by the excess and ridiculous packaging, and the product itself had issues. Besides requiring a tiny screwdriver that I did not have handy, the product was defective out of the box so I gladly returned that piece of crap. At REI I found the Superflash. After the Blackburn experience I was very impressed by the plain Earth-friendly packaging, and the battery was already installed so I could try it out in the store. I was instantly wowed.

You should call up niterider and dinotte and make sure. :p
Call them so you can check their accent. :innocent:
Also find out if they are made by true blue US citizens and not immigrant labour.
Ask about parts, and absolutely insist the LEDs are made in the US(cree are making some in china now). :notamused:
Good luck with the batteries. We would love to hear where they are made.

Let us know how you get on. :roflmao2:

ps: joking aside, make your own, just to be sure. :thumb:

Well, Dinotte on the website says: "All of our lighting systems are built in our Hampton, N.H., facility..."
Whether ALL the parts are from China, well, who knows. But at this point, I'm simply looking for something on the box that says "Made in the US."

From Light and Motion: "The company is currently housed in a 16,000 sq. ft. renovated sardine cannery overlooking the Monterey Bay. Located in this facility are our CNC machine shop, molding shop, assembly shop, and design and sales offices." This sounds like everything is made there, but I since I don't have a physical light in my hand, I can't say for sure.

Update on NiteRider: SOME are made here and some are not. Yesterday at Performance Bike, I looked at a few models (Classic and SOL) that stated clearly on the box, "Made in USA." But today at REI, a little one "UltraFazer" was made in Taiwan.:(

So, please chime in if you have a light and can tell me where it's from. I'll keep posting when I find out more...if people are interested.

Cheers!

Cygolite is based in Santa Ana, California and the TridenX box has a "Made in U.S.A." logo with an American flag on it.
