I bought a used bike with SRAM twist shifters. Sadly, they don't mount well onto my North Road bar (they cant make it past the curve), this is a problem as it doesn't leave enough room to mount grips-even the short twist shifter ones.
I was thinking about getting a bar end bar and sliding it towards the stem- then mounting the shifters on it. The cables should reach fine, and it would give the brakes and grips adequate room. What I wasn't sure was if the grip shifters would survive without the pressure of a brake on one side and the grip on the other. They seem fragile.
The derailleur is a SRAM 4.0 8 speed, the shifters are 3.0's. I couldn't find any trigger shifters that would work and the wife isn't keen on my upgrading everything. My wrists really like the North Road. The only other idea was keeping the straight-ish bar and using the ergonmic cane creek ends. (That is still more than I was looking to spend).
Thanks for any ideas,
Brian
