So I gotta show this off. In fact, still can't believe it happened. Pinch me, or push me off my bike. Am I dreaming?
I'm down in Albany, Ga, visiting my son and his family. Rode yesterday on his bike, an old mountain bike with big old two inch plus wide tires. Last night, his dog grabbed my sunglasses and chewed them -and my little clip-on over the glasses rearview mirror - to bits.
So this morning, I visited the LBS here in Albany, a verywell-equipped and full service place with some really knowledgeable people.
And there it was.... on display. A candy apple red Trek Madone 5.5. At an absolutely incredible price.
Now my wife was with me. Truth is, I didn't want her company in the store because I like to drool at the new bikes and, well, you know wives get when they see us looking at expensive new bikes.
And there was this awesome machine calling my name. Gene, at the bike store, offered to put some pedals on for me to try out. Nah, I said, knowing I'd just feel bad that I couldn't buy it. To my surprise, my wife urged me to take him up on the offer and take it for a spin.
I did. Oh my goodness. Love at first pedal.
I came back in the store. She looked at me and said.... no lie... "Get it... Happy Father's day."
And so I did. Gene will pack it up and ship it FedEx to me back in Michigan when we fly back home Monday. I did 18 miles in the noontime Georgia humidity right then and there. Will ride tomorrow and Monday.
See why I can't believe this day?
Here's a pic...
