Well after reviewing threads for a few weeks and going down to the LBS, riding a bout 6 different styles, I splurged and got myself a Trek 7300. Only upgrade will be the seat for now. Should take possesion next weekend.
I am hoping to firm back up and get some cardio training and LOSE some weight. I am tipping some 300lbs on a 5'9" solid frame. 52 years young.
So anyway, that's my short story.
Take care,
HB

Welcome to our little corner of the forum. I have almost 4000 miles on my Trek 7.3FX and expect you'll have the same good luck with your bike as I've had with mine.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Congratulations on making the decision to improve yourself. My best advice is to not compare yourself with the other clydes. Some folks around this forum put up some serious milage, in time you will too. Even if all you can manage at first is a single mile (or a trip down the driveway and back), it will still be cardio exercise that you weren't getting before on top of being more cardio than most people get all week. Other than that, rubber side down and be safe. Be sure to share your progress and ask any questions you have along the way.

Congratulations on your new ride, we are all bike porn addicts and require that you post a picture or two of your new ride. Bonus points for sexy angles.

Well folks, picked up the 7300 yesterday. Only added a gel seat and a rear red LED thingamabob so far.
(I read the Fred threads...lol)
Rides really good, feels good. And it's a great looking bike.
I live in a hilly area, I forgot how hard it is to ride inclines.
When I got home, I rode about 1.3 miles and was one limp legged and winded puppy as I struggled up hill to the driveway in about the lowest gearing on it, well 3rd to the lowest due to recommendations I've read about chain angle et al). Went a ahead and got a bike rack so I can take to the local trails that start about 6-7 miles away............Hopefully inclines will be more forgiving.
So more to come..................

OK folks, finally snapped and resized a photo to post. I do not know if it is only an attachment or it will dispay until I post since I am new to this forum.
In any event, here it is. Hope I did OK on the model. I am still tweaking seat and stuff. Butt needs tightening up in a bad way. Don't want to get a new seat until I get some time in the saddle.
And I will have to get adjusted to the forward leaning with all the upper body weight.

But only got 25 miles on the new Fred tripometer so far since I installed it couple weeks back. Just got back from a 10 mile ride on paved bike trails. About all I can handle right now...........

Excellent looking bike!

If that is your driveway, you have no choice other than to get better at climbing! Gotta love knowing your last few yards to home are always uphill.

Good eye Alathea.
Adjusted it today. Moved the seat forward 1 inch, trying to get a bit closer to the bars, and tilted up a bit just to experiment. To try to take pressure off the hands and grips. Will try out tommorrow. Will see. I am playing with it to find the sweet spot for me.

Thanks all.

Yeah, your seat looks a little tilted towards the rear. This might create some *serious* tingling problem with "the boys" after a mile or two.

Also, don't get discouraged your first week or so back on the bike! I hadn't ridden in 15 years before getting back into it a few months ago, and I had this misconcieved notion that it'd be just like riding back then, when I could go for miles and miles and miles and not break a sweat.

Uhm... yeah... my first ride was 3 miles and I was a flopping rag of sweat at the end. But every ride gets a little easier, and I hit various mile markers feeling less and less "blown" and am going further and further. So don't worry too much about your first week or two back on the bike. Just ride!
