Texas - Anybody in Houston have a <$100 bike to spare?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi. I've lurked in the vintage forum for a long time, but never here... didn't realize so many locals were on BF!

My Nishiki commuter got stolen, and I need to find something decent within my budget before school starts again in 2 wks. If your significant other has been nagging about your small fleet of project bikes, maybe now is the time to downsize? I can't pay much, but happy to clean the gutters, babysit or whatever. I make a killer fancy mac and cheese.

I'm 6'2" and have a spare set of 27" tires/tubes if that's all it needs. Wrote more here: http://houston.craigslist.org/bik/720604092.html

East Hill suggested posting this, apologies if it's considered spam or solicitation. Thanks!

I measured my smallest frame, and it is too tall. I think there may be something at my F.I.L.'s house that is smaller, if my wife did not already give it away. It may be in rough condition, though. I will check this afternoon.

Edit: The one at my F.I.L.'s house is a 51 cm road bike, but I am not sure if it is in working order yet; I still need to look at it. If this one is workable for you, we don't want money for it.

I don't think a 51cm will fit the OP. I know a guy on the east side of houston that builds single speeds on the cheap for around $175. His name is kirby. Email: spinningobjects@gmail.com.

he built an ss for my wife last year and a fg for me just last week. He know his stuff well...very solid work.

Thanks so much for the response RexG and sluglug!

It's really generous of you to offer that 51cm, but I agree with sluglug that it'll be too big. I'll contact Kirby sluglug, thanks for the recommendation.

In the meantime, if anybody has anything else please post.

51cm too big for someone who's over 6 ft? What kind of bike are we talking about here. I'm a hair under 6ft and ride 56-58cm frames for my road bikes. In any case, good luck with the search t_rex.

Are you allergic to Single Speed?

Not at all. Anything with straight wheels and not an Xmart will be better than walking 5 miles each way in this heat.

Have a Trek fx 7.3 that is a 2007 model. Could let it go for $100.00. I am 5'8" So it might be small for you I think the frame is a 17.5 but I am at work.

The spare 51 cm bike we have has a fossilized rear cassette, but I just saw that the OP is 6'-02", and the 51 cm would be way too small, anyway. It's too small for me, and I am right at 6', and use the 57 to 61 cm range. My wife is 5'-07" and rides a 51 cm. She got the two 51 cm bikes as a used-bike package deal, and wanted to keep the Lemond and find a home for the Cannondale, but the C-dales's cassette is fried.

Good on ya 10wheels!

t_rex, ou get many good miles out of what looks like a very nice ride. Sooner or later, you will get the chance to pay a favor forward to another cyclist.
