We've introduced the dog to jogging with me on the bike and he's taken to it like a duck to water. :thumb: My afterwork evenings no longer need to be split between biking and playing with the dog! *dance of joy*

Considering 10km/hr is an easy jog for him & 16km/hr is a lope, this is going to be GREAT! :giver:

GREAT, as long as you and your dog stay away from other people. Riding with a dog on a leash sounds dangerous. To yourself, your dog and anyone sharing the path or roadway.

I don't see a leash mentioned anywhere in the op! But don't worry, because nothing bad has happened yet, means it's safe!:thumb:

I dont understand if this is sarcasm or not. I think with a well trained dog and a skillfull rider it can be a safe practice on a rarely used path. I usually pass this one guy that has a 6' hard leash attached to his top tube where it meets the front down tube, his dog is always very docile and he is riding at more of a trot for the dog then a run. He rides with the dog on his right side in the grass off the path. I see him pretty consistently and he is always very predictable, he comes almost to a stop when passing people and politely asks if they could move left so he can pass on the right most people accomadate this with no problem. It is a older dog and has been very well trained for this type of activity. I think its pretty safe in the manner he does it, but i can also see it being very unsafe if the dog isnt highly trained or a soft leash/no leash is used.

hehe ...you underestimate me sirs! I am VERY safety focused with this. Essentially 4 months of solid preparation has gone into testing this out today.

This is the cumulation of:
- formal pre-competitive obedience class this spring
- purchase of no-pull harness and boots to protect dog's neck and feet
- work with me on the bike and Aaron on the ground with the leash to habituate the dog to the bike
- dog on leash attached to waist (at/below my center of gravity for stability) allowing both hands to remain on the handlebars at all times

The hard leash would be more ideal but it has been impossible to buy in Canada, though I'm on a waiting list.

Come on Mr. Beanz, don't you know not to underestimate the wimmen? ;)

OK, so I did. Only cause I didn't see the leash in the OP. I took it as " she's testing me"!:D

That and I didn't recall you being one of the wimmins! You should change the "E" to "Elizabeth or Elisha", whatever it may be!:p...Now that I 'member the saddle thread, yes you are!:thumb:

Well, after nearly a month of practice at the dog & biking thing. I'd like to report that I, the dog & the rest of the world remain in one piece. We've survived squirrels, pigeons and other dogs running out to play.

So far it's had some great fringe benefits...
The neighborhood is appreciating a dog being run while on-leash and not harassing their children (they seem to be split between the crazy smart and crazy like outhouse rat opinions)
The low speed is forcing me to learn to spin, greatly improving the rest of my cycling
A very mellow, properly exercised dog

Oh yes ... and its a great warmup before doing some REAL cycling

Wait til your dog gets in shape and starts suggesting Centuries. ;)
