There was an awesome food spread for all the racers. First time I had watermellon after a race - might be my new post race recovery fruit. Didn't care for the milk they had... too hot of a day.

Oh yeah, I raced and finished.

Nice....when is the report coming out?

I suddenly have a strong urge for some chocolate milk for whatever reason now.....

Quite true ! Just like last year. I had to hold myself back after a while.

The chocolate chip cookies were pretty good. I ate at least four. I deserved it, though, after climbing Constitution Hill twice and getting shelled the second time.

My buddy at work did the Masters 35+...he got 8th. He said it was a pretty fast race.

That food was delish. 3 oranges, 2 watermelon slices, a yogurt, 2 lemondades, a fruit punch, and water were awesome things to have after a race. Truly. My legs feel awesome today, and I attribute that to being able to eat such great food immediately after I crossed the finish line.

Does Cat 2-O-Meter 100% mean you are now a Cat 2 KP?

Damn, I hope so. Training 3 hours w/avg hr over 180 deserves it. KP, what was your avg race HR?

Roger Aspholm, the local racing mega-stud who occasionally comes out on the Nyack Ride to smoke Camels whilst hammering at the front with the peloton dogs like me in the cheap seats going 'who IS that friggin guy?' - Roger won the 35+ Masters at Housatonic. He solo'd in. The closest chaser was NEARLY FIVE MINUTES BEHIND HIM. On that course a gap of that magnitude is close to two miles wide. The 35+ vets who go to Housatonic are not meatballs boys. Not at all. Roger crushed them.

That's pretty friggin scary. That dude should be riding for Toyota United or some pro squad. Not for nothing, but if were younger (he's 37 or 38) and the pay was better in pro cycling, he might be.

I met Roger's wife two years ago at Bear Mt. She was watching the race at the feed zone. She spoke very highly of her husband's cycling and seemed very proud him.

Supportive spouse / signifiant other - the true ingredient to a successful racing career

Roger Aspholm, the local racing mega-stud (he's 40) .

I just looked at his results at cycling USA I think he's got more finishes IN the top 5 than out

That would be negatory. My upgrade was just denied again. The official didn't count one of my finishes because the race was...wait for it... 2 miles too short. I was denied my cat2 upgrade because of 2 damn miles.

Shoot the promoter! ;)

Damn, that sucks.

(Let me reiterate that, ;), as most promoters kick arse - I'd be riding by myself without them.)

Hey KP, before you upgrade to Cat 2 don't you sort of want to be dominating the Cat 3 events you're in now, or at least getting so many results that one result being inadequate isn't enough to derail the upgrade? Will it be that hard for you to replace the points this official wouldn't allow from that one race KP? Sounds like one good showing in one more race and you're there.

Its just stressful is all. I want to concentrate on getting ready for next season, but can't because I have to concentrate on getting my upgrade. If I got it, I would have cut back my racing schedule drastically and would have concentrated on getting the most out of my training.

Well, I did Housatonic, I knew early in the race that the power guys would beat me at the finish, so I wanted to win something, I took KOM-I was happy with that, took 7th overall in the sprint at the finish, there are some real strong guys heading to the 3's, and I'll be heading there after Fitchburg. I would like to win as a 4 though. Oh well. Now I'm working 12 hours a day, with little time for training, so, I'll probably suck at Fitchburg.

Rumor has it that Rogers' wife is a Doctor and Roger doesn't work....just rides his bike basically "full time". He's also a former Danish National cross-country skiing champion (i.e, has the genes.....Olympic level, etc), and that he also sleeps in an oxygen tent.

Oh yeah, he also had a flat tire at Housatonic, too....

Mark McCormack, probably one of the fastest guys in New England (and 2003 USPRO National Champion) narrowly beat Roger for the sprint at Sturbridge, and Roger was basically double-teamed by Mark and Frank McCormack.

Roger is one fast dude from what I hear.

I hear he trains with Bill Brasky.

No, Roger is a real person. My buddy at work is generally in the same races as him as he's been doing a lot of Masters 35+ stuff lately (and got 8th at Housatonic in M35+)....and trains/races with a handful of other Cat 1/2 guys as well, and everyone knows each other, etc.

Both impressive. Oh, also, Roger's wife is quite the eye candy :)

Yeah, he's on a whole other level. Kinda like Mark McCormack.
