Come on over baby, whole lotta covered up seatpost goin' on. I've got several days work in another city, and I'm going to multi-mode it on my Mini. I'll have no need of lights most of the time, but I'm arriving at the other end fairly late at night, and will have a mile or two to the hotel. I'd like to try my new Dinottes, but with this trunk, and a pannier or two, how would I mount it?

One option that comes to mind, is to pick up a BikeBlock (https://www.fenix-store.com/product_info.php?cPath=25_66&products_id=340) and use it to put your DiNotte on the underside of your rack's central support tube.

That's not a bad idea; I'm ordering in some LockBlocks for Velo Chocolate, and I could get Twofish to throw one of those in the box too. That's not gonna happen before next Monday however! I can get away with a helmet mounted blinky for now.

How about making a shim and attaching it to the rear strut of the rack?

I'd put it there. If your taillight came with the special seatpost mounting bracket with the smaller O-rings, those smaller O-rings also work well for mounting to rack tubing.

Another option could be very strong velcro on the briefcase and on the light, if you're ok with having the velcro permanently attached to the side of the case.

I'll have a look at the rear of the rack. I do have the special bracket.....

Just wrap the O-ring around a rack leg twice, like this:
