I have a mid 80's Schwinn World mixte I'd like to fix up and give to my daughter-in-law who is relatively new to cycling. It has Suntour friction stem shifters and I would like to set her up with some type of indexed shifting if possible.

I seem to be able to find downtube index lever sets on ebay but not stem. Can index downtube levers be moved to the bosses on the stem shifter clamp and work correctly?

I have older Suntour XCM accushift or Shimano Deore index read derailleurs I can put on the bike to work with the index shifters.

Any other options for drop bars?? I prefer bar ends myself but they are pretty hard to find and pricey today. Has anyone tried mtn bike shift levers on road bars?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

If the shifter fits, it should work. And u need the paired index shifter and the paired cluster to the RD. If u just use the old cluster, all bets are off.
