Of course it is..... mostly.
The bigger question is... who is presumptuous enough to parse and catigorize the faffage?
What's next? Percentile ratings on the alleged offenders?

Edited to add:
We need a poll!

How about faffing in a private period - or, for that matter, an exclamation point or a question mark?

Oh, you can try to not open these kind of threads--but the Evil Power of teh Internets compels you, sapping your free will and forcing you not only to open it but to read every post (no matter how many pages there are!), kicking and screaming (figuratively, at least) all the while. I hate when that happens.

I've been wondering the same thing.

It reminds me of the old joke:
An elderly woman calls police to complain that a man in a neighboring house has been exposing himself as he showers because he doesn't pull his window blind. The police arrive, look out her window, and claim they can't even see his bathroom window. The woman responds "of course not, you've got to stand on the bureau to see anything".

Weak link's recommendations:

-do not open a web site that features pornagraphy, sedition, sedation, contrition, or discussions of which pie to eat when oogling at teenagers at the local Starbucks after riding 30 miles on a MUP at 18 MPH on platform pedals after colonoscopy.

Really, big guy, you should know better.

The title doesn't mean diddley on this list, all threads are subject to being made into faff, i.e. the same ol' ,same ol' "cutsie stuff" from the same ol', same ol' good ol' boys (and girls) diddling each other's ego and electronic cutting up just like they wuz in grade school again.

And those who don't appreciate the cutsies will be encouraged by the "Friendlies" to move on.

Actually I don't understand. I just checked out carbon fiber frame thread, the getting a new bike thread, the "good wheels again" thread, the "Sirrus Comp vs. Sirrus Sport" thread, among many others, and found lots of very worthwhile bike-related dialogue.

You are correct there are lots of good threads, with lots of good dialogue; until the thread gets diverted into the cess pool by the Cutsie Poo gang talking to each about pie or some other silly crap that they find soooo amusing. Why even post a serious post or question when the Gang is likely to use it as just another spring board for their version of OT Friendly Chat?

I think it's pretty easy to predict before opening which threads have spiralled off into chat-dom. If the title isn't clear, you can pretty much guarantee that any thread that is more than a page long is going to have gone off tangent at some point. That's not that different from the rest of BF, though -- generally the bike-related stuff is in the first 5 to 10 posts; after that there is no real guarantee what you are going to find.

I think you're being too serious. Lighten up! Have some pie! Kick your shoes off! It's easy to find something that upsets you, but it's a good day when you find something that makes you smile!

Getting mad at us is like going into the Politics forum and telling them they argue too much and you'd like them to change. Or the A&S forum and tell them you'd like them to respect cagers a little more.

ILTB - I think you have made it REAL clear for several years now.

You do NOT like Cutesie, you do NOT like the 50+ forum, you do personally not like a number of us (as you have expressed to me in PM's some time back).

OK, I undersatnd all of that.

Then, my question to you is,

"Why in the world do you keep participating in and posting in the 50+ forum, when you KNOW what it is like, and you do NOT like it?"

Do you enjoy beating your head against the wall?

Do you think somehow that you will change the characteristics of the 50+ forum?

Not a chance.

So, why not talk with the MODS about starting a forum that YOU WOULD LIKE?

Something serious, no joking allowed, no "cutesie" stuff. Right to the point. Period.

I am sure there are others who would join you, and together, you could control any non-serious post, and you could find satisfaction in having started a forum that meets your (and perhaps others) needs.

Or, if the MODS won't let that happen, you can easily start a forum on Yahoo Groups- I started a very serious Yahoo forum on Bicycle Trainer Support that is DEADLY serious, and now has over 225 participants. It can be done.

This is a phenomenon common to all public fora (aka forums) I have experienced. There is a lot of good information to be had from this forum. And don't you like to watch something interesting come out of the most unpromising topics?

I think maybe some don't like this particular genre of flaff...Feel free to find another forum or start your own.

Hey, is it just me or is there a lot of whining going on here, lately?

I would suggest that the moderators (having nothing better to do with their time) flag or otherwise identify those of us who routinely serve up witzelsucht, out and out snark, bad advise, pointless vignettes, and flights of fancy. Perhaps a little brown lump (representing animal excrement of choice) would be by our names instead of blue stars. That way, the weary and wary reader, those that just want the bottom - line and don't want to put up with all the cutsie-poo nonsense, will know to avoid our posts.

And think of all the valuable time you'd be saving

After a day at the office, a ride and a little feckless meandering in these environs are cathartic.
