Also are they easy to configure? Do you have to put the magnet that trips the sensor a certain distance up or down the spoke? I'm thinking about buying the Cateye cordless 7, any comments on this computer or are there any other recomendations for a cordless?

Installation is a bit less of a hassle because you have no wires. Sensor and magnet installation is no different than wired units. Computer config is all similar. My new Cateye wireless works flawlessly. I'm thinking of buying another of the same for another bike.

Would that be a cordless 7?

Putting it on the bike is the easy part, setting up the computer takes more time.
I have a Cateye cordless. It is VERY easy to set up on the bike because of the lack of wires. Setting up the computer is also very easy, but it takes a little more concentration to do it correctly. I'd definitely recommend the Cateye computer you mentioned. It's great.
I actually talked to the people at Cat Eye, and they said they don't guarantee the computer working correctly (Cateye cordless 7 specifically) if you are also using a HR monitor... Anyone with any experience on this?

I wear a heart rate monitor with my Cateye wireless and everything works fine; both the HRM and computer don't have any problems being next to each other.

The Cateye Cordless 7 is a super easy install. Very easy set-up and works as it should. The sensor is also super easy to adjust. Much easier than most I've set up.
No issues with interference from my Polar HRM either.
One vote for the Cateye Cordless 7

The proximity of the magnet relative to the hub is irrelevant. For example, each point on a single spoke passes a fixed point (such as your magnet fixed to the fork) at the same time. It's the pace with which the spoke travels around the hub that increases with distance from the hub. In essence, the further out from the hub, the faster you have to travel in order to complete one loop at the same time as a point closer to the hub.
Hope this helps.

I've never seen any problem between my Polar HRM and my Specialized wireless computers.
Running my Niterider lights, though, causes big problems with both the computer and the HRM. When the lights are on the computer shows erratic, too-low speed readings from missed sensor counts. (Adding the Niterider tail light has made the problem noticeably worse.) Turning the lights on completely blocks the HRM's reading the heart rate signal.
I've tried re-routing the cables for the lights, but there is only so much you can do as all of the units (HRM, lights, and computer) like to be mounted within a few inches of the top of the stem. I wish the Niterider cables, lights, and controls were shielded better, somehow (if that's even technically feasible), because I like to ride hard at night on my way home from work.

No more difficult than a wired version,
but man... are they unreliable.
My experience of the Sigma cordless is bad.
It let me down on every occasion. I've been through
2 in the past 18 months and am reluuctant to go for
another cordless. The Cateye sounds promising though.
I found the battery went at an alarming rate, especially
if you leave the sensor close to the magnet on the spokes.

yep, The ones with cables are a pain. Corrosion sets in and after awhile they don't work at all. I'm using a ciclomaster cm434 and I had a few initial problems with positioning, but now it works fine.

I got the Cateye Cordless 7 in July. It worked fine up until the past two weeks, I've been getting incorrect mph readings. Very erratic (flashing mph such as: 13, 7, 4, 19, 5). Enough that the average mph reading is way down. I changed the battery, checked the magnet/sensor tolerances and still get the erratic readings. Not just every once in a while. I've not changed anything else that would cause the interference. I'm going to replace it, then send it back under warranty..... I'm still undecided what to replace it with because I really like its features and up until now have had no problems w/it.

On our last tour I pulled the wires out of the old computer getting off the bike, so I had to get another, the only computer the shop had was a Cordless 7.... It worked well the first day, then it died. So I had to pick up another new computer (wired) in NY.
I tried to return the computer to Cateye, but they would not take it back, they did send me a new sending unit to fix the problem, but the same thing would happen, fine one day nothing the next. I replaced the battery and still had the same problem. Cateye will not repair or replace the computer as I don't have a dated sales slip. (lost it on the tour) AGgg!
