Yeah, that's the ticket!

(part way down the page)

I had a heck of a lot more respect for Boonen before this little change of heart. I have no problem with him doing rec. drugs. However, this silly lie .... it's really sad.

FU Boonen.

Yeah, I'm not sure if he thinks that everyone forgot what he said last week already. That really disappoints me. Didn't Ben Johnson use a similar excuse?

It's as though he finally realized what it would do to his yearly earnings and figured he'd better recant. That does more damage to my opinion of him than the original slip-up.

I say, F-U to him on that note as well.

In further news, team manager Patrick Lefevere and sponsor Quick Step CEO Frans De Cock are meeting today with the Amaury Sports Organisation, which manages the Tour de France and has also excluded Boonen from its race. De Cock has said that the sponsor wants Boonen to appear in the race (http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=news/2008/jun08/jun16news) for financial reasons.(SW)

I had to read this a few times.

When you've had a handful of rotten peaches, and your bowels start moving, sometimes you just got let things seep on by.

When you're on a bike, or at least your desk, for 6-7 hours a day sooner or later you're going to need to poop during that timespan. Seems like you could just load up on fiber in the evening and be sure the cheeks are empty before starting a race the next day.

Look, the guy wanted to be honest about it. Then he realized he might lose his ride or worse, go to jail. So he is put in a position to lie because fessing up doesn't get rewarded when it comes to this kind of stuff.

I'm supposed to be insulted? "Oh how dare you Boonen, lie to me to save yourself, friends, and family. I thought we were best buds!"

Whatever.

The UCI had already said he wouldn't be sanctioned. Quickstep had already come out in full support of him. Even moreso they extended their sponsorship three years. He wasn't going to lose anything but face. He just thought the police would let him off with the original plant story, then realized he had to stick to it after the press conference or be accused of lying to the police.

maybe someone knows of another bib-terdding incident in the annals of bike racing.

I know why it happens, but that is still uncontrollably hilarious.

Or if your personal values place truth highly, you will be less enamored with someone who seems to have no problem lying when it's painfully obvious he's full of crap. (See what I did there? I referenced the bib turd pic!)

Good work on the reference :) Your argument, not as good. Sure, I value truth highly, when it comes to my friends and family. A stranger lying to me or the media because otherwise they would be in deep ****? I know, as does everyone else, were they put in a position to lie due to similar circumstances, they would. I already mentioned how he felt compelled to tell the truth at first until he realized he would be screwed - the system is not setup to encourage the truth. I'd love to see anyone else do it differently when their future was at stake. For those that are ragging on him, I doubt anyone of them have never looked at a police officer and said "No occifer, I wasn't speeding."

David Millar?

The one exception, and doesn't prove anything. I don't believe for a second he told the truth out of the goodness of his soul. He told the truth because he was 100% busted and calculated that this would limit his losses in the long run. Perhaps he is a Saint (except the whole cheating thing!), but that is not likely. When Millar looks into the camera all doe eyed people think "now that's a guy I can trust" and forget that he used PEDs. Boonen lying about sniffing glue is not even in the same ball park as doping.
