Hi guys,
I'm going to be an intern at GM's Tech Center and I was figuring on commuting by bike. Once I got past the irony of it all, I thought this a good idea seeing as the area looks pretty flat. Coming from the Bay Area, I have no idea what the road situation is like, so I wanted to ask the locals. I'd rather not be on the 10 o'clock news. My thoughts were to pretty much start at Highway 59 and head south on Ryan rd, then east on 12 mile. From google street view, it looks nice and low and traffic. Hopefully I didn't choose a main thoroughfare. Wouldn't mind hearing from locals whether or not this is suicide. Thanks.

Every route around here is busy... Ryan road is probably among the least busy. That said, wear a mirror on your helmet or glasses so you can see what's coming up behind you.

What kind of intern will you be? At teh Mound Road site?

I don't really know the riding around there since I'm in the Ann Arbor area with Visteon, but try to suss out your colleagues' and bosses' feelings about bikes and bike commuters - the irony thing. It might be wise to be discreet for the first few weeks. I'm nowhere near being an intern, but please feel free to ask if you want to talk about the auto industry.

I've been in Mound Road as a supplier, and it is a wonderful facility, in general, GM has built amazing capabilities.
