The weather is good, let's celebrate the longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice, by riding part or all of a 23 mile route from Brookland, NE DC to Savage, MD..and/or the 23 miles back to DC.

This informal, non-exclusive, gregarious randonneur departs from the Industrial Funplex -1253 Newton St NE -at 10am Saturday June 21st. It will stop when/where ever riders want to stop along the route, but with some free hydrating preparations already arranged in Riverdale, Beltsville and Laurel, and opportunities to buy ice cream, snacks, beverages, bakery goods in Greenbelt and at the Laurel stop around 1pm.

Approximate timetable:
10am -depart 1253 Newton St NE
11am -Anacostia River Park, Riverdale, MD
12pm -Odell/Muirkirk Rds, Beltsville/Montpeli er, MD
1pm -La Campechanita Spanish Bakery, Brock Bridge RD south of Rte 198, Laurel MD
2pm -Gorman Rd and Foundry St, Savage MD

The ride will rest at Savage Rocks, a Patuxent River swimming hole next to the ruins of an industrial past, the crumbled Savage Mill. Rams Head Tavern sits near with a beer list and a menu and has been alerted to the possibility of a sweaty rider invasion. The ride will reach Savage around 1-3pm.

The ride back will follow any route we please, likely the one that brought us there, and anyone who rides my way will end up bringing that special funk to a reggae dance party in Columbia Heights, NW DC.

Riders with visions of developing Route 1 away from it's current car-centric state are especially welcome.

If one of my coworkers doesn't end up throwing a BBQ, I might come by. How many riders typically show up?
