Tandem Cycling - Suspension seatpost for stoker?

I like the USE, but note that the preload is in the bottom and the post cannot be cut if it is too long. On our C'dale, it hits the water bottle boss for the shortest stoker.

The Thudbuster is well liked- I prefer the short travel version, but be careful to make sure you have enough room between the collar and the rails. It can be cut shorter if needed.

My stoker loves her Thudbuster ST.

A fatter rear tire with less air pressure works great.

We've got a Tamer Pivot Plus on our bike, and it's suited us well. It does require some periodic lubing to keep the squeaks at bay, especially if we get wet. It took us a few rides to get the tension properly adjusted....their weight charts weren't accurate.

We chose it because at the time it was the only suspension post with a short enough minimum extension to fit my lovely but short wife.

Happy with my thudbuster, but captain calling bumps is essential, and remembering to keep my heels down is also important.

My stoker loves her Thudbuster ST also. She also has the Tamer Pivot Plus on another of our tandems, but prefers the Thudbuster.

My wife loves the tamer pivot plus with a carbon post. As mentioned above, you need to set the allen adjusting disc by trial and error. The way we adjusted ours was to mount it and have my wife sit on it (me holding the bike); if it gives at all, go 3-5 turns farther in... the set point is where the mechanism activates only after she "jumps" slightly on the seat at it gives. We are convinced that those stokers that say that it "rocks" too much and "robes" power from their stroke may have a badly adjusted tension on their system.

We do not use a suspension seatpost.
Thudbuster . . . rode their prototype years ago, worked as advertised.
Use a Brook saddle with springs . . . takes out the bite some.

On behalf of my stoker, we offer another vote for Thudbuster. But don't think that you have to stick to their weight guidelines for elastomer choices. My stoker's weight was close to the middle of the mid range elastomer but she found it too bouncy especially at higher cadence, switched to the firmer choice and all is good.

I'll also, "see you" on the suggestion of calling out bumps, when you see them in time, and "raise" a quick "sorry" when you're late.

If you're in the same boat as us (i.e, an older Burley with a 26.6 seatpost) and can't get a decent suspension post in that size, we've had excellent luck with the stoker using a Brooks Champion Flyer Special saddle....

Thudbuster Lt for offroad. St for road. Keeps my stoker happy. Used the St myself offroad as a stoker. Really impressed. Reall took the edge off those hits.

Does the Tamer Pivot Plus have similar bouncing action to the softride? I know the softride beams are no longer available, but we tried the thudbuster and probably would have given up on tandems altogether if that was the best we could do. (My captain was not good at calling out bumps.) But the softride on our CoMotion SkyCap is great!

Do any captains out there use a suspension seat post?

Have only seen 2 tandems where captain utilized suspension, and both had Allsop Softride beam (front and rear).
Captain sits in middle of the tandem and as such gets the best seat with the least bumps.

We have a Thudbuster and she likes it. I have not ridden on it but if it makes the stoker happy, It's good with me. More time on the bike togtether.

Stoker Malkin uses (and reports being very happy with) BOTH a sprung Brooks saddle and Thudbuster. Although we had to move up to the stiffest insert (black) to keep from launching her into orbit.

Jeanne is supported by a titanium Dean seatpost on the Co-Motion Roadster, and a Thudbuster Long Travel on the Cannondale MT3000 in the woods.

While she may not admit it or realize it, my thoughts are the titanium seatpost took the edge off, as there is very little complaint since the install.
