Texas - DFW Meet 'n Greet: Planning, Take 2.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Since the last meet'n greet planning kinda fell apart, here we go with round 2. Last we left off, I think the plan was for Love & War in Texas out in Grapevine to allow some of the more western (aka: mid-cites and ft.worth) folks a chance to join us. I'm open to other suggestions for location. Grapevine, Irving and that neck of the ole woods sounds like a fair plan to me. I suggest a Friday or Saturday evening, somewhere we can try to get a reservation since I'm suspecting we'll have 12-25 in attendance as usual. Maybe even more as I've noticed a number of new faces and names around here.
So, I'm going to leave the suggestion box open till Friday. After that I'll figure out where (and when) would likely be the best choice. After that, no complaints if you didn't speak up now. ;) :p

What, no riding?
We can plan a ride & dine as well. Sometimes that's even harder to organize than just food or a ride.

Are we still looking at a weekend, or are weeknights a possibility?
Which ever works best for most people. I can probably get out to the Irving area by 6:30 or so on a weeknight. Not sure about the majority of other people though.

I think meeting for food and a ride out at Northshore would be a good time.

I am new to Bikeforums and it would be great to meet others in the area. I live in Irving so anywhere in the mid-cities area would be fine. Week-nights I usually work but off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I am also off on Saturdays, so any of these days would be great for me. If we do the ride with 20 or 25 people, it would be nice to be in an area without a lot of traffic so to stay as a group. I'm game for anything though. Jason

I'm a maybe for stuff like this, not too big on the social scene. But I work in Euless, so anything close to the midcities would be as fine with me as anything.
I assume the Northshore suggestion is the mountain bike trail at Grapevine Lake?

You might steal the idea that RBR did; the Fort Worth crew takes the Trinity Rail into Dallas (Union Station) and the Dallas crew takes DART into downtown, everyone meets and pedals around downtown or to WRL or whatever.
Hey, let's focus on getting a dinner together right now. If someone wants to organize a ride in a seperate thread, by all means go for it.
The difficulty with organizing a ride is that we have a wide range of interests and skill levels represented. You have people who are confortable doing 15-20mi at 16mph, others who would rather do 45 miles at 17-18mph, then we have the mountain bike guys, some fixed gear riders, etc etc. Weekend before last I led the Dallas Vintage ride which I had spent 2 months organizing and planning for. Even when you focus the ride down to classic & vintage road bikes we had a wide range of rider abilities to contend with.

That is certainly a good idea for a ride. Though right now there is a lot of construction down at WRL still isn't there? We could also have a group leave from RBM in Richardson for those who want to get more miles in if we met at WRL.

I'm up for a meet & greet.
Weekends are best for me.
My issue with a weeknight meeting is that I work until 6pm (at least), so I wouldn't be able to get to the Mid-Cities area until probably after 7pm.

I'm up for it if it's a Friday or Saturday evening. I work dep nights and the midcities back to work would be a task.
That being said, I'm off the week of July 4th (got some mileage/time/survival goals to work on) so if it ends up being then, I'm good for any evening.

My wife and I started at Valley View on Sunday and rode the complete loop. The road was still divided on Lawther(?) but it looked like most of the construction was done. I think there is supposed to be some kind of dedication ceremony this weekend to celebrate the completion of the new paths. Let's hope.:thumb:

Don't forget the people who are comfortable doing 16-20 miles at 15 mph. :D
Actually, I like the idea of pedaling around downtown simply because the environment tends to be an equalizer.

I'm up for dinner on a Saturday! Friday nights are out cuz that's TV night...at least until Dr. Who is in reruns and BG is over.
Oh! 1 Vote for Love & War in Texas!

It's been maybe a couple of weeks, maybe 3, since I was at WRL but it's been passable all along. I normally start at the parks just south of 635, though. Also discovered I can ride to WRL from my house, maybe 9 miles or so there.
I could do any night but Wend and Sat.

+1 for Love & War in Texas
I'd be coming from Keller, TX.
Need decent notice to get sitter.
A Friday night would be better.
Thanks for your thinking of getting folks together.

Ok, what about next Thursday night, the 26th of June @ Love and War in Grapevine for dinner and dancing? 7 or 7:30pm?
Just kidding about the dancing.
Those that want to continue to do a ride could plan a Saturday ride together if they wished.

Or those who can pretty much ride any distance at <10mph. :D
I also like riding Downtown, but then, I live there.
I'm in for whenever. Fri nights are iffy for me as thats when I start my scuba classes.
L&W is good since I work in Irving!

It looks REAL touristy (http://www.loveandwarintexas.com/locations.htm), but it looks fun, too.

Has anyone been to Love & War, either location. Looks pretty neat.
Next thursday, I'll be riding the South Boundary trail in Taos, but I'll be sure think of you guys, and it's the thought that counts...

Ive been to the one in Plano. Its tex-mex thats about 75% Tex, 25% Mex. The food is good- thats why
I was the first one to suggest it a couple months ago.
Been to the one in Plano several times. The chicken fried steak is teh bomb, yo. The Shiner Bock Beer Beans are pretty good, too.
I run a pretty crazy schedule and my work hours are kinda weird(work in a hospital), so Im never real reliable when it comes to planning stuff, unless I get about 3 months notice. :( THat said, whatever day yall come up with, if I can make it Ill do my best to notify the 'proper authorities' and be there.
Thanks for trying to string something together. Always cool to find new peeps to ride with.
What about Norma's Cafe on E Beltline if you want good chicken fried steak!
I'll be flying back to TX on the 26th. So hopefully the date is after this.

So, are we doing it this week, or this weekend??
It would be good to do it before the 4th.
Any votes (vote +1A, +1B, or +1C)?
+1A = Thursday - June 26th - L&W Grapevine - 7:00pm
+1B = Friday - June 27th - L&W Grapevine - 7:00pm
+1C = Saturday - June 28th - L&W Grapevine - 6:30pm?
I vote 1a.
I'm teaching on Friday and Saturday so they're out for me.

+1A for me.
Let's say 1A. It's kinda short notice, and a week day, but shaking it up a bit is a good thing. For those who can't make it Thusday, we can do a weekend sort of get together some time in August or so.

So I guess we're on for tomorrow night?
Is it just 3 of us? That would be fine with me, but it would be nice to have a good group.

Hey guys,
I just now saw this post. I'd like to make it, but Joanna has a class tomorrow night, and I'm too stacked up with work to go out and have any fun at all. If I had more notice, I could have offered the use of my backyard again as we did for Dale Brown and the Classic Rendezvous gang. Maybe fire up the grill and sit around and tell lies about cycling. That way I wouldn't have to drive anywhere! Someone mentioned the group from RoadBikeReview.com and their train ride from Fort Worth to Dallas. That was a pretty nice idea; a group from Fort Worth road the train to Dallas, where the Dallas group met them, toured around for a while, then rode back to Fort Worth, where the Dallas group road the train back home. They stopped by my place where I provided a rest stop complete with cold water, fruit, and bandaids. For the complete story, here's a link: http://forums.roadbikereview.com/showthread.php?t=131466
Have fun!

Okay, so this is tomorrow at 7:00 at L&W, Grapevine? I'll try to make it up, no promises, though.
Yes, tomorrow 7pm. See ya'll there. We'll probably have a fairly small group, but I'll plan for a table for 8.
David - when it cools down a little (but not too much) we'll have a shindig at your place. :)

I enjoyed it as well. I even got a couple of great restaurant recommendations out of the evening. I thought the food was good, and the place is huge.
Attendees:
Mr. & Mrs. cuda2K, StephenH, Jim10040, Mr. & Mrs. Hobartlemagne, crdean1, crdean1's friend Stephen (non-member), and Road Ferret.
I would have much preferred meeting with y'all than sitting home, hacking up pieces of my
lungs and feeling generally like crap. . .

No, I rode with some friends in Keller. I don't think cuda2K went either.
