Northeast - NYC: Park Ave Closed to Traffic for 3 days in August!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
yeah, right? But I figured it would extra crazy that day. I wanted to try it as long as I was down there, but figured it would be a bust.
One sorta bad thing about summer streets - it sure made me a little bummed this morning, especially when crossing traffic-choked Park Ave. at 57th.:(

Although this event is a tremendous inconvenience for me (I do a service route in the city every Saturday), I love it.
This past Saturday I never saw so may cyclists throughout manhattan and brooklyn.
I guess once people are out and about on their bikes they decide to go exploring.
I hope the success of this trial closure will make it a permanent event next summer.

Nope, it was a happy accident. I was taking pictures of the bridge itself and this guy was right in front of me.

Well, duh. I already have Friday evening dinner planned out.
I'll def be there. I'm marshaling the ride in from Corona park in queens.
I'm planning on going this Saturday, start out with the TA ride from Flushing. Anyone else going to be headed out with me @ flushing?
leaves the Unisphere at 8:30, I believe....I'll double check.
Be sure to wave to the nice policemen at the QB entrance.
Oddly enough no cops were around the QBB last Saturday...they musta all been in Manhattan blocking traffic?

Wouldn't it be much harder to pedal if you drag your wife along?
Wouldn't it be much harder to pedal if you drag your wife along?
I think that depends on how many people you usually drag.
Like the new avatar - now I know to look for the trailer!:D
Thanks! Even money says we might be at Summer Streets tomorrow. More than that, I can't predict.

I had a great time again today. A few blocks from the Brooklyn Bridge, I met up with Caaah and two of her friends, all of whom were riding neat folding bikes. The ride was less crowded than last week, but we ride earlier in the day than I did last week.

Nick and Caaah, with moonwalk guy loking at emily's Dahon Hon Solo, a gorgeous bike.

Emily in Central Park. I'm not sure if the guy behind her just stepped in something nasty or is poised to moonwalk.

I can't remember her name - Beth? - we met her in Central Park, and she was with moonwalk guy.
We parted ways after lunch, and I rode the West Side Greenway down to 14th street and took the train back to NJ. I hope they make a regular thing out of this.
