does anybody have suggestions on what to eat for dinner when I have a fast training ride of about 20-30 miles at six o clock. The problem is, I am not hungry beforehand, and if I eat too much, I have stomach issues. I would like to eat more though because I don't want to be eating dinner when I get home after a shower because It ends up being 8 o clock before I sit down to eat. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Scott

Protein shake with scoop of peanut butter. Or quick bowl of WG pasta and protein shake upon return.

5-5:30 dinner? Wow thats early. If you are not hungry, why not eat after you come back? Eight is a reasonable dinner time. IMHO
Eat when you are done FTW

have a larger lunch later in the day, say around 3pm or so. then you'll be set for your training ride. you should always count on eating something when you are finished, but it doesn't necessarily have to be "dinner".
You really don't want to eat three hours before the ride. It's good advice to eat a late lunch, then maybe eat one gel prior to the ride. There's nothing wrong with a late dinner.

thanks for the suggestions. Today I just ate a Cliff bar before the ride then I had a little high protein dinner afterwards around eight. This seemed to work well.
Thanks,
Scott

I do evening rides year round.
I do a cliff bar 90 minutes or two hours before the ride and a fair bit of water at the same time. Accelerade during the ride and then endurox right afterwards. I'll generally have a small snack with my endurox - a tortilla with some black beans and chicken, a bagel with chicken and cheese, something like that. That works well for me.

really? it's always worked for me and i've read it in a number of places, including:

Time your meals. Eat large meals at least three to four hours before exercising. If you're having a small meal, eat two to three hours before exercising.

If your trying to lose weight, then its a bad idea to eat a large meal b4 going to bed....especially carbs! If you dont care about that, then do whatever you feel.
Are you riding to get fit?

It would be a worse idea to not eat after a ride than to eat before bed.
It's not a good idea to have dinner before a ride. Last time I was so weak, I cut my ride in half.
What happens is that when you ride the food in your stomach stays there and digestion stops. It's different with energy bars which are meant to be rapidly absorbed.
Don't eat, have your ride and then have a light dinner.

Whoops, I meant not to eat any less than three hours prior to the ride. Eating 2-3 hours before the ride is just fine.
