Just got back from my last ride for 2003, and, well, someone's got to start this thread.

My total miles for 2003: 3322.05

I know this won't even come close to the miles commuters put on their bikes, but I'm proud of it.

My New Year's Day ride is planned, and the weather looks like it will be great, with temps in the high 40s F.

I ended up at about 1650 (not including trainer miles) . I was really shooting for 2000 this year... but since my bike went down 2 months ago... I got stuck there... next year I'm gonna try for 3000 miles !!

Boo-ya !

This year I got in 5,678 miles. This is about 1,200 miles less than 2002, but I can't really put a finger on why. It seemed like I was riding more, probably just not as long. Plus, a month off the bike from a crash hurt the overall mileage this year.

Total miles: 1550
Total on road bike: 747

Most roadie miles were on my old Univega that I sold in November and got a new-to-me (used) Cannondale R500 that had about 100 of those miles on.

I'm aiming higher next year once this road gets finished out here.

Hey Prosody I'm just like you, I just got back earlier today also from my last ride of this year, it was on my tandem, so that was cool..So I logged my final mileage for this year also on all the bikes and came to just over 5700 miles..about 200 miles more than last year, so I was happy with that also!!...Hopefully next year will be that much also, I'm already looking forward to my first ride of next year tomorrow also, cause here in Michigan it's not snowing or raining, and the roads are completly dry, so I'm going to get out also tomorrow, something I haven't done on Jan 1st for the last 3 years!!..

Have a happy new year everybody!!, and may many good riding miles and times be in 2004 for all of us!!

I didn't keep accurate records but think it was ~3500 miles (~5600 km). My best year yet. :)

About 3300 in the 6 months I've been riding. I'm hoping to triple that in 2004 since this year I've been sick a few weeks, and my first 2 months didn't include that many miles.

Finished my last ride of the year a few hours ago, and my final mileage was 2732 miles. 2650 was on my new bike. Last year I did around 1100 so a significant increase. Would have been nice to hit the 3000m mark, but my goal for the year was 2000, which I hit in sept, than I upped it to 2500 which I made a few months later. So next year it will be 3000+.

VERY rough estimate (excluding MTB commuting) is about 9000km.....not bad considering 2 house shifts, some bad health (dyhydration etc) some bike down time etc etc and a crash... all go for 13,000+km this year!!

OK so its paltry but here goes. My total mileage for '03 was 785. most of this was just commuting, and '03 was the first year I kept track. In '04 I am shooting for 1500 mi. In the latter part of '03 I let a lot things mess up my head and kinda lost site of how much I love cycling, so a new year's resolution is back to the bike!

NZ...I like to visualize my annual mileage in like how many times I crossed North America. 2003= 4.033 miles..that would cross the country and put me in Like, Labrador, maybe?
Your 9,000 km= approx. 6,000 US miles. That would be like riding the circumference of New Zealand like 10- times.
Last year- I like, rode from California to Labrador and returned to California. that sounds pretty good. With only money and time I would like to make that boast.
Better yet, if we could, like ride across the Atlantic and end up the UK.That would be good.....Be a pretty expensive toll road.
Some months I have been known to ride 1.000 miles. That seems pretty wasteful, when the same mileage and effort could have put me in Kansas.

5571 miles on the road bike, less then 200 in total on the other bikes (mtn / fixed).

How does someone ride more then 8000 a year?

Commuting helps a lot. On a good year I commute to work 4 times a month..that is 200 miles a month in and of itself. That is 2,400 miles annually.. Some years I commute on average, more than that.
My log said during 2002 I had 3 months with over 1,000 miles. Then each of the last 3 years I have had a bike tour.
My tours have been from about 400 to 900 miles.
Getting that kind of mileage is not that difficult if you commute and ride with a club... One member of my club suspects he has ridden over one million miles?? He is working on a 300 mile day? I work compressed days and have off more days per week than most.. When I am at home and my wife at work, I ride, ride , ride. She wishes I would do more yard work...

yard work? Does that have something to do with the jungle growing around the house?

About 1500 miles. Not a bad year for me, but I hope that 2004 will allow for more riding time. I finally finished school, so I will have more time to ride :)

Prosody..An easy solution out here. It does not rain for possibly 9 months of the year. We live in what should be a desert. But usually a cool desert, if you live on the coast.
So just let your sprinker system go to hell...This past year I did..Don't have to cut what you don't water. Besides, why water weeds. I would rather ride than pull weeds anyday.
Hope I do not have a bad riding year....Just lately I had our sprinker system repaired..

Slightluy over 5,000 miles after riding on 12/31. 19 centuries all but one solo.

Doen from 8,200 last year as my job has me traveling and I only get to ride on weekends.

It was a good year considering the travel & all the rain we had in the east.

Yes what about mowing, house upkeep, kids, washing cars, cleaning house, work, all that other stuff?Oh i see your in fallbrook.Back in the early 70's,thats where i got the best pot i ever had, truly one hit stuff.Your not growing that stuff so you really dont have to work are you?LOL

Skor...I would not think a hit would be great for co-ordination when on the bike.. I have heard reports of the wild area north of town called DeLuz being big on such substances. I ride through there, but stop- no...DeLuz Canyon is a hell of a work out. If one were to stop, and lose your determination, you would call it a day and have to camp in that valley. Like 3,000 feet of climbing over some really steep grades. The most challening rides in the county use Deluz as the county's most challenging ride........ As to mowing, etc.. I do mow, but beyond that- thank god for gardners..A once a month service. As to helping my wife with house work, that can be done at night; when, not out cycling...

Well, you have to neglect work around the house, mow grass in the dark (if at all), watch your wife roll her eyes  frequently, have people look at you funny a lot (hey! they spend more time watching TV than I do riding... and they're worried about me?). Persistance and consistancy have been paying off, though, and I like it. 7800+ miles, ~450 hrs.

You have to withstand criticism...Had to swith around equiptment on the entertainment stand.. I heard three times from my wife..We are always up late doing this kind of thing, since you are never about the house to do what needs be done. Three times... All I say is that is how it is.. Until I can retire and then I might have a couple days free of the week.... But that is about 10 years away.
It does not faze me...It still got done...so what....

Less than 250 :( I had hoped to get in about 500, but just couldn't pull it off. Got sick. Bad back flared up, etc. I haven't ridden, really ridden, since 1990, for many, many reasons. Had knee surgery in 2000, and I really didn't think I would be able to ride at all, so last summer I replaced the rotted (no kidding!) tires on my road bike and got back in the saddle to ride with my kids, just spinning low gears to see what I could tolerate, taking it R-E-A-L easy (out of fear, I suppose). Most of the miles I put in were to get the bike fit just right, to lessen knee strain, etc. I also picked up a cheapo Trek MTB which I plan to convert to a commuter, so some miles were spent setting it up.

2004 should be better. No set goals yet, but I should break 250 just commuting and goofing off with the kids, maybe a century or two in the late fall.... With luck, I'll get my wife back into cycling this year. :)

For 2003: 5731.25 miles.

I didn't ride from Thanksgiving to New Years. So I'm sure I would have reached 6K pretty easy or at least got very close. My goal for the year was 5000 mi. This year I'm shooting for 6200-6500mi.

Hey Julu.. Would you care to join my Active body cycle team....
You have just the mileage I`m looking for ;) .
Its the Ukriders team, but I`m prepared to change it to the Commonwealthriders team just for you :D

My mileage for the year was 6,000 right on the button, My New Years eve ride ended at 5,999,so I continued on a couple of times round the block for the satisfaction of registering 6k...
