I try to keep very accurate records of my riding and here are my statistics for 2003. I only rode 164 days. I covered 1,929 mi (3,106 km). That is only roughly an average of 12 miles a day or 19 km. During most of the year I was just trying to regain my health after a lay off of six months at the end of 2002 due to very bad back problems. The best year I have had since I lost my left leg and inured my right knee was 3,321 mi (5,347 km). On my best days near the end of that year and this year I was doing 35 km (21 mi). My first flat of the year occurred after 2,294 mi (3,693 km) carried over from the previous year. The next one occurred after 416 mi (669 km). The last one occurred after 1,346 mi (1,929 km). The increased rate may be due to my tires getting thinner. They are slicks, so they don’t show the wear. These statistics may sound very poor to most riders but remember my worst limitations are my right knee and my age, 82 years. I ride only because I have always loved the bike. Keeping accurate records keeps me at it even as my health fails.

Robert, you put me to shame.

Congratulations on your amazing bike riding.

You are, without any doubt, MY member of the year.

1550 miles with an average speed of 12.05mph. Two to four hours a day commuting to work and home cuts into riding time. I'll be glad when this road widening project is done so I can ride those commuting miles safly. I also spent lots of time with a trailercycle attached and an ever growing little boy behind me. This year he learns to ride his own bike as he turned 5 in September.

About 3,200 miles. My odometer broke on my mtn bike, so I have to guesstimate.

~3500 miles (~5600 km).

Thanks for reminding me. I must reset the odometer tomorrow morning. :)

Robert- I certainly can only HOPE that I am even riding when I am your age, much less riding that kind of distance. I'm only 52 and only rode a little over 2000 miles this year. I'll be lucky if I can remember who I am, and if I can climb on a bike, I hope I can remember where I live when I head back from a ride. People like you really amaze me and I truely envy you. Keep pedaling!

Ugh! I just figured my totals out. It's absolutely the worst year I've had since I started riding 7 years ago. I rec ride only on trails(well mostly).
557 miles, 23 days riding. But things are looking up. I've got a different job where the hours aren't so long. This coming year I hope to be back in the 1000+ range again. :D

For my first full year as a roadie I got in 89 days and a little over 1200 miles. This year I am hoping to ride 160 days and double my mileage.

RG, thanks for confirming for me that I picked the right sport to maintain a healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life.

My 2003 total mileage, Commuting - 9257, Recreational - 5955, total 15,212. It's been a great year on the bike. Most of what I own is worn out.
