My neighbor Dawn and I pulled out our cue sheets from CyLowes fabulous Hills of Horror ride and headed back to Cross Plains this morning after discovering last night that all of our children where busy for today and we were FREE!!!!!!! So what are two gals to do .....shop, lunch.....head back to Cross Plains, YEAH!!!!

Got there around 9:00 ....had a quick java and took off. What a fabulous day to ride.

For those of you with us last ride, Dawn was thrilled today to make it up every hill without walking!!! I actually got off my bike on observatory and ran back down the hill to cheer her up the final climb.

We just  love riding there. Stopped in Blue Mound for lunch and then made one other stop since we missed the Vermont Church Rd. turn and went pretty far off course but it was so scenic we didn't care.

We ended up with 70 miles.

We'll try to get our act together earlier next time so we can invite you all to join us.

We were trying to imagine riding Observatory from the other direction which is what it looks like you did for HHH I told her we could turn around and go back up, but she declined. :D

Awesome! It's only been a few days since I was last riding there, but I wish I was riding there right now.

If anyone is interested: the Bombay Bicycling club has a ride planned out of cross-plains this sunday: www.bombaybicycle.org. I've had my fill of those hills for now- but I'll be back for DLD training!

Dave, I think it's just you and me that are officially registered. I signed up for the 200k this year. I know I can make it.....before sundown :p I need to make a reservation at a hotel. I'm thinking of staying 2 nights this year based on the sundown finish prospect. :D

Deviating from the map is where it's at!

I did the same thing on Friday turning a 43 mile route into a 50 mile route up there and discovered a sweet freshly paved road on the northeast corner of the 200k HHH route map. Where the HHH does a right on Spring Valley, I took a left on Schuman Road. Pure fresh pavement for a few miles of climbing. Not an epic hill, but the pavement made it spectacular. It's on the third stage of the HHH 200k map.

The HHH only goes up Observatory until it turns right on Barlow, so many folks don't know that continuing east up Observatory is quite a climb in and of itself. Not as steep maybe as the short climb heading west, but it is longer and needs a good steady pace set.

Way to go heading up there! It's far away, but oh so worth the trip.

After the HHH I believe I am in for 200K. Just have to recheck with the wife. FWIW Stuart put a discount coupon in the HHH goodie bags for $5 off registration for Dairyland. PM me if you need the code. It's only good for a week or two more I think....
