R20 BB question

I'm wondering if it takes a Raleigh specific tool to remove this last piece of the BB or is it generic to bikes?

I've tried trapping it in a vice and twisting the bike but unsuccessfully. So before I round off the 2mm edge I thought I'd ask those that have gone before....

Remember it's a left-handed thread! Mine was very tight so I abandoned my efforts to round off said edges, and took it to the LBS.

Had the same difficulty once. I actually spot welded an appropriately sized hexnut to the cup, set it up in a vise, and unthreaded the part. Later, the weld was ground off and the cup was reused. - G.R.

I got mine off with a vice so it can be done - It might be the reverse-thread thing.

I "made" one of his tools and it works very well. In fact it was exactly this tool I used to work the cups into the BB shell, and extend the treads. This allowed me to retain the original cups, and narrow the BB shell (hacksaw) so that a "normal" length cotter-less axle could be used.

I was fully clothed while doing this......

+1 on Sheldon Brown's tool. My fixed cup was stuck badly, and a hardened nut and bolt did the trick!

Got a Var bb cup remover at work with several different fittings to suit the different cups.

Have used the big bolt and spanner method.
but have scarred the side of bb doing that on raleigh cups.

I ussually drift it round with a hammer an small chissel

I saw that article months ago and didn't understand the purpose of the nut and bolts.
Now that I have this problem I get his simple solution.
Gave me the answer before I asked the question.

++1 on using Sheldon's solution. I used it on my R20 and it worked great. Simple, cheap and effective - what's not to like!
