I think this is fantastic news. Well, how could it not be. Still though, great news.

Great news. Good to see some new blood taking a chance on the sport and putting some of there money that cycling has helped earn them back into the sport.

When a major corporation agrees to spend millions of $ on pro cycling it's very good news. They're not going to get from season ticket sales, that's for sure. My biggest fear is that all this negative publicity will keep companies away from the sport because they don't want their name associated with doping scandals and incessant UCI friggin soap operas.

incessant UCI friggin soap operas.
I think this is worse than the doping. Sports gets through doping, and doping can inadvertently help sponsors. Do you remember Floyd's sponsor? Heras's team? The 1998 team that got busted in the Tour?
Okay, how about the team of the guy who got second in the 1998 Tour?
But if there is no federation or unifying body governing the sport (IRL/IndyCar for example) then it's totally unpredictable. Imagine if Versus signs to broadcast stuff from the UCI schedule and then the ASO says that they won't sell the TV rights to just anyone? Now what happens with the Tour? Wait for the DVD?
If the ASO and UCI don't get their act together, we're going to be praying for the good ole days of doping and combines.

Awesome news. I'd buy a jersey.
Also, I love how marvelously this all worked out with the development and release of the ANT+ PowerTap hubs. It all makes sense now!

Yeah, very good news.
But now I'm going to have trouble remembering which one was HighRoad and which was Slipstream. :)
Remembering historical continuity is a problem with cycling's team naming.

Yeah, sounds like all the data will be up on their website too, which could be cool.
(it'd be dead cool if it were live, like that Nokia system!)

I might be missing a few steps but...
Telekom - T.Mobile - High Road - Columbia
TIAA-Cref/4280 - Slipstream/Chipotle - Slipstream/Chipotle PB H30 - Garmin/Chipotle PB H30

Right, I just have to remember which was which. :)
'Garmin-Chipotle' will no doubt just be referred to as 'Garmin'
I need a big flow-chart with all the teams.
(though it does let teams like Astana escape shady pasts)

Obviously good that new sponsors are coming in, and willing to do so in these circumstances.
A little bit troubling that the new sponsors are just coming from companies with signficant sporting goods/sports wear interests.
Columbia obviously saw it as good marketing, given the people that watch cycling, are likely to use their products in outdoor recreation, and Garmin makes cycling products.
Not sure you're going to see major, mainstream companies such as TMobile without cycling ties, coming into cycling anytime soon.
It's kind of like in Golf, do you want to be sponsored by Titleist, or IBM.

All very true, though CSC has picked up Saxo Bank - a major regional corporation.

prob not. But it is still encouraging that companies with cycling ties invest more heavily in the sport, especially when in need -- and this sport is in need. We've been buying their products for years, this is another return on our investment in them. I feel pretty good about it.

I wonder if they'll use a Garmin head or a PowerTap head. Or maybe there'll be a PT-Garmin head.

I'm sure they'll move to just the Garmin head. I'll bet that's what we see on their bikes in Le Tour.

I just did yesterday. Luckily the plainer black one, not the one with the logos all over it.
Now if they just came in small...

Perhaps part of the onus for ANT+ P/T's?

Saris has already announced future ANT+ compatibility for PT hubs.
They will also offer a user-installable kit that will bring current 2.4 hubs up to ANT+.

Not only is my 2008 CSC jersey out of date for the tour (assuming they wear the saxo/csc one) now my slipstream one is out of date too :/
Still gonna be shouting for Jens and DM though :)

I'm real happy that some major companies are stepping up and to back American based teams as well. And that CSC will stay together, I think we all wanted that. Not another case of Discovery splitting up.
I hope they keep some form of the Argyle :p

I'm pretty sure thats an elevatoin profile, not anything power related. That article was clearly written by a non-cyclist, there were quite a few errors and oversights in it.
