Road Bike Racing - Euro pro cycling

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Who is your favorite team or pro in cycling?
My money is always on Mapei and Johann Museeuw. The '98 Tour of Flanders prooves what I'm talking about. Museeuw man handles the feild while his team stays in the main group and gives the smack down to any and all attacks. real cool.

I believe that *this* is actually the oldest thread.
Personally, I don't think Lance has a chance of repeating next year with Jan Ullrich back.

That's a resurrection worthy of Lazarus. Or Charlie's Angels.

1999! Sweet. My bike just became a bit less old school!
'98 Flanders was awesome!!!
Watch Musseuw go on the Tenbosse. Unbelievable.
Nothing wrong with resurrecting the good ol' posts of 8 years past.

1999 is so long ago I was still racing in my first Cycling Incarnation. On the other hand I had the same house, family, business, website and delusions. Well, OK, the delusions have grown and taken on new dimension. And I didn't have the Best Dog on the Planet. I'm not sure managed without Sam (my dog).
And Ryanf was 8 years old.

I had an opportunity to show this race to the Aussie under 23 development squad. My comment to them was that Museeuws attack on Tenbosse was a textbook demonstration of how effective EPO is as a performance enhancer. :D

And I was still older than him. How depressing is that?

Well, that was a given, but Mapei wasn't the only team to have the "system" down, so it all seemed fair to a sick point.
My fave was La Vie Claire in 1985-1986. They were so strong and had more palmares than US Postal.
My recent favorite was this year's Italian women's elite road race team. They covered EVERY attack at the beginning. Later they dropped the hammer and dropped obliterated the field. The sprint was easy for them. Utter domination.

I'll never understand womens racing. How one particularly small girl was able to motor away from a decently sized chase group and hold it to the line is beyond me. Granted she had two teammates trying to disrupt the chase, but they weren't effective. No one from the other countries would committ, even the teams like France, Canada and the US, who had multiple people in the chase as well.
