Hi-can anyone tell me best route to St. Pete Pier/Vinoy Park from the Pinellas Trail? I know some of the main streets have a bike lane most of the length, not sure which streets do...need a return route as well...somewhere around Tyrone Mall to depart from trail....thanks!

The extension of the Pinellas Trail from the current south end at 34st to the St Pete Waterfront is not fully complete, but is already being used. Check out this article for some info: http://www.tampabay.com/news/transportation/article629764.ece

Sorry, can't help you on the other part of the route.

You're in luck. I ride this all the time to get from Tyrone mall to USF st.pete campus for the club rides. Here is a link to my mapmyride route for it.

Take 1st Ave S all way down to Bayshore Drive and make a left. You will see the pier. 1st Ave South is a one way street with a bike lane all way down. For your return trip, take 1st ave North. A one way street as well with a bike lane that goes all way back.

Tip: The lights are actually properly timed on both of these roads for the speed limit (40 mph). Obviously you can't do 40 mph but you can do half of 40 mph, which will keep you in green light cycle. So try to approximate 18 - 22 mph and you will probably only stop 2x for nearly 70 blocks. There's one or two intersections that are little off.

MarkD is right, the trail isn't technically open, but it is paved and ready to ride all the way into downtown. When you cross US19 (the old terminus) you have to use the pedestrian bridge or risk life and limb crossing the road.
