All the cyclists are out in the 'burbs. Atleast, that's been my experience.
Whooo hooo!
The torch has been passed from Chicago to Detroit!
We were the fattest city last year, but the mayor's been doing a lot of sports oriented activities and has a fitness council that promotes fitness to its residents.
Goooooooooooo Detroit! :D

But isn't Chicago the Murder Capital now?
Yes. I guess that's the trade off. :( More skinny people to murder?
We only edged out NYC by 2 murders- that's not too much, although NYC is like twice as big as Chicago. :-/

More skinny people to murder?
Skinnier people are harder to hit :D and skinnier people on bikes are harder yet.
So judging by that rationality...since Chicago was the fattest city and fat people are slower and easier to hit it is now the murder capital and not the fat capital because the fat people are easier targets and therefore are less in number now...that didn'y make any sense. Did it?
And try running away from a murderer if you're obese!
Chicago is like DC- you can't buy handguns there either. However, DC also has high homicide rates because people can still go get guns in Virginia or Maryland. My guess is that it's the same case in Chicago- people get guns illegally, probably criminals/gangs whatever.
Anyways I thought Houston was the fattest- last year,at least.
Just think... If Detroit could stay the fattest city (BTW, the study used - in part - the number of fast food restaurants vs. number of health clubs available in the area) and some of these lawsuits regarding fast food making people fat/killing them take hold, perhaps it can one day hold BOTH distinctions! ;)
Just kidding Detroiters...
Interesting -- bicycling offers a solution to traffic congestion and physical fatness.
Obesity is an epidemic, according the the Center for Disease Control. It's not limited to any city.
Scariest part is the large (sorry) number of grotesquely obese folks under 30 years of age. Will a lot of us have second careers in our dotage working in bariatric care centers? I can operate an automotive engine hoist; certainly that will be a useful skill!

My understanding is that the guns in Chicago come into the city from the surrounding suburbs, where the gun dealers will sell a 'saturday night special' to just about anyone with the cash to make a purchase.
Some guns come from the suburbs. Some come from right in the city. Some you can get at Walmart and Target. It's not too hard to get a gun these days.
Michael Moore did his movie about how easy it was to get guns in Michigan, no matter where you are, and I don't think it's any different here. What they told us in the news (if it's accurate) was that about half the murders in Chicago were drug and gang related. I guess that leaves suicides and accidental shootings for the other half.
I also heard in the same news report that Chicago was the SECOND fattest city in the USA. We've actually moved down to fifth fattest city, they said, due to an increase in fitness activities and events around the Chicago area.
