Recumbent - Winter training using stationary trainers

Hello, everyone! Happy New Year! It's good to be back from deployment. I had a great time in the Mediterranean, but I missed the summer riding season. Does anyone hook up a stationary bike trainer stand to the rear wheel of their 'bents? I have an Optima Lynx, and I am trying to figure out if there's a way to hook one up so I can ride at home in stead of the snowy and cold New England winter.

I use an I-magic virtual trainer for my Optima baron. It has a steerer on it also, so I can navigate the course.

Its a pretty cool setup in that you can also race others who have the trainer. Pretty easy to trade courses back and forth.

Thanks! It looks like a great setup. It's a bit out of my price range, though; I checked on the internet. Any other static trainer suggestions for 'bents for between $200 to $400?

I don't know the rear wheel size of your bike. If it is 26 in or 700 you can use any trainer that an upright bike would fit on--right?

I modified a trainer (I can weld) so my Greenspeeed trike (with a 20 inch rear wheel) will fit on it--but I have found that I prefer using a gym-type semi-recumbent stationary bike during the winter. Less noise, no wear on trike, no shredded tires, as good a workout

I'm using a Cyclops Fluid^2 with a V-Rex and a Volae Team. It works great.

The biggest problem for me with a stationary trainer and my bent is the extreme bordom I get from sitting in my basement pedalling. I prefer the gym where there are at least some other people around.

Go to the cyclo-ops web-site and get a staionery ttrainer w/adapter for 20-24 inch rear wheeels if needed.

This may make you a bit envious but I came across a Minuro Cycle Trainer in a dumpster in Toronto while on a trip and I backed in my big Bob Trailer Bag on the way back home and it works perfectly with my Haluzak. There was absoultely nothing wrong with the thing as far as I could tell. Amazing what one finds thrown away?

My recumbent has a 26" rear wheel but I have to remove the bob spindle and use a regular spindle to make it fit the clamp at back.It's OK for doing some training at home but I find the spin classes that I take during winter work better than using a trainer at home.

The thing with a trainer is that there's always resistance. It's a lot harder than riding outdoors. I'm going to a gym to keep fit. It's boring there too. They've got a TV to watch and that helps and I'll be in good shape as soon as it's warm enough to ride. I just hope I don't get so bored I quit before the riding season is here.
