Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Looks Like My Tri is going to be a team Tri.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Since I still have some open road rash and the screwed up shoulder, I can't do the swim portion. So, I'll be more or less doing a duathlon and my niece is going to do the swim. :D
Still go for running and cycling though. :D

If I lived closer to you, I'd do the swim portion for ya, but good luck with your duathlon. Heal up so you can do it all sometime. Sooner or later I'll be heading back to SoCal, so down there may end up training for tri's, but it'll be the running I dread. Did a year of track in hs and can't stand running since. :p
Please let us know how you do. When is it and how long for each leg?

It's just a sprint triathlon, not that long. The run is what I dreaded the most as well, up to my crash a month ago. I don't have enough shoulder strength or endurance for the swim right now or the mobility (<50% strength and 80% range of motion), and with the open road rash still (when I crashed, I ground down 5+ mm into the leg below the knee), I'd be risking a nasty infection trying the swim in a freshwater lake.
Meanwhile, I'm doing PT for the shoulder.....which I HATE!
Date, June 28th, in Warsaw, Indiana. If any of you Clyde's/Athena's are going to be in the area, come on by and cheer me on!

Actually, there have been Bulll Sharks sighted, reliably, in both the Great lakes AND the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, and a Juvenile Bull shark caught in the Wabash River. They can live quite well in both fresh and salt water. ;)
Sharks in lake Michigan?

I know zilch about sprint tri distances. Educate us on the swim, ride and run distances and the order you do them in. What are/were your training times for each?

Here are the courses and distances for this event, and as to time, I never timed myself, I just try toi hold at least an 18 MPH average on the ride. The run is going to be more of a jog then walk then jog, then walk again. I don't care if I am first or last, I just want to finish it.....;) The cycling part is good, the run, well, I have buggered knees form being as heavy as I was. :(

Yeah, the run part would be the jog/walk/stop for ice cream part for me. The swim would probably be the most physically exhausting just because it's not something I've done in years. Good luck Tom!

The thing is, I love the swim part......I just don't have the shoulder mobility to freestyle right now, + the open wound on the leg still?
I wanted to do the whole thing!

The swim part would be the most fun too, but it'd still be the most exhausting. Too bad they don't end the tri's w/ the swim as a way to cool off after riding and running.
BTW, swimming in Lake Michigan w/ open sores is sorta how the Toxic Avenger was born. So I'd try it to see if I could become a cult superhero with a broom.

It's because of the challenge from transitioning to riding after the aerobic depletion from swimming.....

sprint tri's around my neck of the woods have a 500 meter swim, a 20 k or 12.4 mile bike ride and a 5k or 3.1 mile run..they are a blast and the tri community embraces us clydes ... at least they have with me...

The swim is in Winona Lake, not Lake Michigan......;)
