Hi,
I need to do some work on a Campag Ultratorque chainset, with the outboard bearing cups. Is that the same tool as used for Shimano? The Park Tools web site implies that it is, but UK retailers seem to only refer to Shimano, although some list a separate Campag tool.
The Campag job may be one-off, and I don't have the tool. Can I use any tool that's sold as suitable for Shimano Hollowtech II?
Thanks,
Tony S

Park Tool doesn't imply compatibility, they explicitly state it:
Also fits the Campagnolo Ultra-Torque bottom bracket cups.

What I meant by "imply" was that the Park Tools web site says that "their" tool (BBT-9) fits both, but that could mean that they're the same, or that the Park tool is a special multi-purpose tool.
Unhelpfully all the UK retailers just list the Park tool as suitable for Shimano Hollowtech II, not mentioning Campag at all. Also they don't quote the Park part number, but just list it as a Park Tools wrench for Shimano HTII.

I only see two tools on Park's site for external BBs: BBT-9 (listed above) and the BBT-19 (heavier duty-looking version that requires a ratchet driver).
So, I think there's a very strong chance the tool they list (sans part number) will work. I know it's revolutionary, but it appears Campagnolo and Shimano have adhered to the same standard.

Strangely enough, the same tool will work for both.

The BBT-19 is nice when paired up with a long-handled ratchet or breaker bar.

Perfect, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Shimano and Campag compatible with each other .. hard to believe, isn't it?

The Ultratorque bearings are pressed on the axle. FSA for instance, has the bearings pressed into the cups. Are you replacing bearings or installing the crankset on on a new bike?

Or a TORQUE WRENCH.
