Road Bike Racing - Who's not burnt out/ done racing?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Silly thread, but it's only June 20th and it seems like some folks are wrapping up their seasons. Why?
Racing season is just building up to the meat of the season, yet cross racing is already being mentioned quite a bit.
I for one cant wait to race again.
I've only done 2 or 3 races in the past 6 weeks as my Stage race prep has taken priority and I'm feeling very excited to race again.
Who else is still motivated to race? (not cross racing either!)
Did anyone burn-out and learn something about how to avoid burn-out... and want to share this information with the group?
thanks,
-L

I've been preoccupied with moving 500 miles away since the beginning of the season. So I haven't been training or racing enough to burn out :(
Yet my season is pretty much over at the end of this month... Moving and getting settled is a total PITA!
There's always next year...

My season hasn't even really started yet...
I mean, I've done a dozen races, but I still have 25 or so to go, at least, all of which are of much greater priority than those already down the hatch.
Not to mention, I'll be getting an MTB soon, and starting up racing XC right away.

Right. Here in the IL/WI area, the big races are still to come!

I’m still pretty amped about riding and racing. Living this far north the idea of quitting in June is laughable.
me. was having some issues a few weeks back but have gotten things worked out, re-focused, mapped out my season through end of august, and am now ready to rock.

Our races are about to dry up here in Central TX, but I'm still motivated, with my favorite race tomorrow.

We had a bald spot last month in racing. But my last races sucked so I want to keep going. I want to train harder and race better. Unfortunately, the racing calendar stinks for me right now.

I've got 15-20 races to do still. I'm less than 1/3 into the race season. Truthfully I don't train enough to get burned out.

i think I'm the only one who mentioned the waning of the season, and that's because I'm on business travel/family travel for the remainder of the MABRA season.

no burnout here. road races are slim right now but criteriums are just getting started. anyone burnt out now should remember what it feels like to ride in december on wet, cold, leaf riddled roads in kit that took half an hour to put on and riding at 3/4 the speed you were in Summer.
This (http://scnca.com/2006calendar.asp) is our schedule. The meat of the season is long gone here. I have a race (maybe two if I feel like staying down in LA overnight) this weekend, then a few races in July and then its train for Everest Challenge in September.

Awesome. I think I'll be able to add a race or two every year now. It's just tough to squeeze in too much with such young kids at home. I think I'll end up with 10-12 races this year when it's all over.

Its really an art form to balance mediocrity from January to September.

Zactly. My wife is starting to frown. I have done 13 races and 4+ events where I have been gone most of the day. I may be able to get in a 1/2 dozen more races if I butter her up. But it ain't gonna be easy.

Exactly. My January-February self would kick my July self in the balls if I were to tell him "Oh, I am le tired of bike racing."
F*** that. I killed myself in 10-15 degree temps riding an early 1990s, fully rigid MTB on snow covered trails for two hours a night, with no one for company but the moon, the trees, an owl or two, the odd deer and my damn iPod. One week, I saw exactly one other person in 14hrs of riding, 10hrs outside. I wanted to stop and turn around so many times, every night, but I didn't.
I didn't do that crap to throw it all away in July.

I bought my wife 2-carat diamond stud earrings for <$500. They're cultured diamonds, though, but she couldn't tell the difference. And neither could her girlfriends, which is the most important test.

I'm not burned out. Was getting close, but a Win on Sunday does great things for morale.
Plus, it's summer and I usually change my riding style anyway. Go for more long casual rides, not so much "training"
Because in TX all the racing's in Feb-Jun, but I'm morally opposed to racing hard in Feb, and only once or twice in March, so I'm just now hitting my probable top form for the year. Which is less than last year or the year before but that's a different story.

In these parts I can literally race 4-5 days a week, and being 40 something I can double up on the weekend days. We really are blessed around here. I'm also lucky that my kid is a fan and loves to go to the races. Hang in there...it gets easier and more fun.

Yeah, we'll see how it works. It doesn't bother me, as I'm enjoying kid time off the bike too. Between Feb and July, I think there are probably 30 races or more, but it gets thin after that for some reason. I'd enjoy more racing, but no regrets

Waterrockets has the Thursday nighters in Austin, and I have the Tuesday nighters in Dallas (Plano) but those are more for fun than real racing. Good training, fun to go do stupid moves and try not to get dropped when you blow up, but I don't care if I get 11th or DFL. Lord knows it'll be an odd circumstance to win one.

I guess that's it, but it's silly in my opinion. We stacked the front end of the season with long road races, so shift to crit mania now. 60 minutes at 100F isn't a big deal. And this is coming from a Colorado boy.
We do have the 'nighter and the Thursday crits, and a series in San Antonio to think about. That's something.

Have a few beers and some viagra if needed.
I'm burned out on driving all over the fricken' state for crits than anything else. All the road races are pretty much over and thats what I like, but there are a few coming up, they are just somewhat sparse. Edit: especially with gas getting so expensive...
State champ road race was last weekend down here. The state crit was about a month ago. Florida season in mostly done, except for a few more races when it cools off a bit. Training crits started mid Jan and we have been going since then. Took last week off. Time to start building for Aug - Sept races.

Good point. Exposure to podiums wards off burnout, same with envelopes full of cash. :)
I skipped a few crits as I was feeling a bit overtrained. See how it goes from here. There's a lot of season left.
I just a bought my license yesterday.

Crush 'em Pablo. If you can hang on Gimbels those Cat 5's are in Big Trouble.
Not me. Got a podium last week and I'm coming up to a couple of crits that play to my strengths.

I don't like crits and for some reason in NorCal there are few road races starting about now that it's finally warm. I just looked at my schedule and there's only 4 races left in my plan. Lots and lots of training though!

I have plenty of races yet to come. Looking forward to it. I have no races in june so it was a training month. Back to longer rides, and more climbing.

I'm moving into a new house and starting graduate school, so riding/racing has really dropped down the ol' list of priorities...and it also doesn't help that my "team" seems to train mostly while I'm at work (I mean, what kind of team chooses to pre-ride a race course @ 2pm on a Tuesday?).

32 races so far this season and still going strong, were about to head up to Fitchburg then I think were hitting a few races on the return trip.
Its funny how a lot of guys were doing 3x20s in march and I was telling them it was too early, now where are they at? Too busy racing to post?

Already lost count of how many races I've done this year(somewhere in the high 20's). Started in early Feb and have been racing almost every weekend since. At this point it almost feels wrong not to.
I had started with a goal that I wanted to reach by July, but I(just barely) reached it last weekend. Now I just hope I can race and enjoy it the rest of the season without putting any pressure on myself.

What was the goal? You going to be at La Mirada or San Pedro this weekend? Edit: I've done 19 races (http://www.photoscene.com/kimandsteve/schedule/) this season, not counting informal local stuff.
