Good question... I used to consider morning rides the safest as there are fewer cars on the road and I thought no drunks... Jeeze, so much for that myth.

Teen hangs at friends house up drinking till 3-4am, passes out, then forces themselves up at dawn (still intoxicated) to get to parents home, school or work on time.

What's the matter with kids these days... can't they tie on a good drunk before midnight anymore??? Sheesh. Back in my day we would have been long passed out by 2-3AM. :twitchy:

I know you are being sarcastic, but ending heaving drinking at 2am can still leave one significantly intoxicated, too much, for a drive home at 6-7am

Did you really mean to say "heaving?"

And yes I was being very sarcastic... for instance I would never get up before noon after a night of "heaving" drinking. :twitchy:

Sorry to take this thread down a sarcastic path RE poor social drinking habits. :(

I humbly apologize in light of the serious nature of this issue.

This is likely gonna wind up sounding like someone relieved themselves in my Wheaties this morning, but here goes:

I believe its a symptom of our society, it's tolerance to DUI drivers. If the little darlings had seen or heard of friends getting busted hard for DUI, had seen in the news about DUI drivers doing hard time, long term suspension of driver's license, or (better yet) vehicle forfeiture, they just might reconsider their actions. The lawyers will plead youth & innocence, asking for a reduced sentence, but what about the rider with a piece of her skull removed?

If a driver drinks, gets behind the wheel, & ruins someone's life, the courts should ruin the driver's life, too. I've had it with with mercy & light sentences. It's time for Old Testament style sentencing. I've lost too many friends to DUI drivers. One was killed by a guy who had 11 prior DUI offenses & STILL HAD A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE!

Oh, but it's only a couple of cyclists. Don't they know it's dangerous out there?

It's because the kids are out of school for the Summer.

Simple as that.

Kids are out of school.

Kids are bored with life.

Kids look towards alcohol for social acceptance and fun.

Kids lack drinking experience to know when enough is enough.

Kids grows up to be bored working adults.

Working adults are in debt, cant afford to live without healthcare, and cant afford to lose job.

Workign adults works 60 hours work week so they wont loose job.

Working adults come home and drink out of boredom.

This is why we have bar closing hours. In theory, 2am gives people time to sober up before their morning commute. Sunday is earlier to help people recover from weekend-long binges. It's sad but true, this is how a lot of people live.

The ******** prigs in our town keep trying to run the fraternity houses out. At least now the kids can stumble home on foot. As they move out of town, they'll be driving drunk back and forth to the bars all weekend.
